Pastors Michael and Susan Thomas

Our Savior Lutheran Church and Student Center called The Reverends Michael and Susan Thomas to be their co-pastors in August of 2002. At that time they were serving with the ELCA Division for Global Mission in Jerusalem as co-pastors at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in the Old City. Susan began the co-pastorate at Our Savior Lutheran Church and Student Center during Advent, 2002, and Michael joined her in the fall, 2003, after completing the Jerusalem term. Before going to Jerusalem, they co-pastored an English-speaking ecumenical ministry in Vienna, Austria.

Michael and Susan are both graduates of St. Olaf College and Yale University Divinity School. Michael did additional study at Harvard Divinity School. Their campus ministry experience began in Cambridge and Boston where Michael served as Lutheran Campus Pastor at Boston University and Northeastern. Susan was Lutheran Campus Pastor at MIT and a pastor at University Lutheran Church, surrounded by the Harvard campus.

Susan is particularly interested in writing and the arts. Michael loves architecture and tramping in the woods, among (too many) other things. An organization close to his heart is the Christian Peacemaker Team, a peacemaking organization focused on reducing violence and protecting human rights in conflict zones.

Both greatly enjoy living in their new home in the woods with their two cats and chocolate lab, and their sometimes-present young adult sons.
