R. David Coolidge
R. David Coolidge received a BA with honors in Religious Studies from Brown
University in 2001. In 2002, he entered the doctoral program in Religion
at Princeton University, focusing on Islamic Studies. He was also previously an
Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies at St.
Francis College in Brooklyn, NY. In addition to his academic work, he has
studied Islam with Muslim scholars (‘ulama) in a variety of settings,
such as a year spent studying Qur’anic memorization (hifdh) and
recitation (tajwid) full-time at the Institute of Islamic Education in
Elgin, IL (2004-2005). He wrote articles published in periodicals such as
Islamic Horizons, Illume Magazine, and Islamica, and
lectures at mosques, universities, and high schools throughout the East Coast
and the Midwest. Married in 2004, he and his wife currently live in Cambridge,
MA, where she attends Harvard Business School.
