New Rabbi, Edward S. Boraz Leads Dartmouth Hillel

With the opening of the Roth Center For Jewish Life, Dartmouth Hillel begins a new chapter in its history led by new rabbi, Edward Boraz. Ordained at Hebrew Union College as well as serving a conservative congregation in Cincinnati, Edward brings an deep appreciation of the diversity of the Jewish experience. Roberta Burner also recently joins the Tucker Foundation staff as Administrative Assistant for Hillel. Hillel officers for the coming term include Jesse Cook-Dubin Ô01, President and Erica Schwartz Ô01 as Vice President.

The vision of Hillel is to create an environment that encourages students to engage in their Jewish culture, tradition, and principles. Hillel seeks to nurture within each student a sense of empowerment in order to further Jewish life at Dartmouth and to make a significant contribution to the betterment of campus life and to society at large.

Learning opportunities will be plentiful, including encounters with faculty members from the Jewish Studies Program. In addition to the traditional Sunday Bagel brunches, the annual Ski Shabbaton -- in which Jewish students from the other Ivy League schools are invited for a weekend of service, study, and recreation -- is scheduled for early December. A variety of community service programs are also in the works in conjunction with the Tucker Foundation.

Weekly services are held on Friday evening and then on Shabbat morning, with a full complement of High Holy Day and Festival services including a Sukkah building and Simchat Torah celebrations are planned. Fellowships | Dartmouth Community Services | Religious Life | Issues of Conscience
