The title of the 1998 Annual Conference is Informal Influences on Moral Development: Family, Faith, Media and Community. The Conference will include a series of workshops, panels, presentations, and invited speakers on topics including family influences on moral development, raising children of faith, the media as moral messenger and moral model, and citizenship and character education.
A highlight of the conference will be a pre-release premier screening of the new Pixar Animation/Disney release, "A Bug's Life", followed by a presentation by Richard Cook, Chairman of Disney Films. A panel of Hollywood scriptwriters, actors, and media critics will comment on the topic, "Does the entertainment media set the moral agenda for the country?".
Area school teachers will be invited to pre-conference workshops on ethics education, conflict resolution in schools, media literacy, and reflective practices. Dartmouth students are encouraged to contact Professor Andrew Garrod in the Education Department about the presentation of theses or other papers related to the conference theme.
