The orphanage
currently houses 100 orphans and twelve teachers, but sadly, the 100
orphans share one toilet and lack any means of running water. They
have no place to play and no area to study. With such inadequate
space, seven orphans must share one bed with one bedcover. As one of
the only concrete buildings on the island of Bhola, the orphanage also
provides an emergency shelter for the 2,000 surrounding villagers of
Bhola during the monsoon season. However, the orphanage has been
battered by harsh weather conditions and is in critical need of
reconstruction. The orphanage is on the brink of collapsing, and an
immediate reconstruction is crucial.
Our goal is to raise $200,000 by June, 2006. If you can help, please
take the time and initiative to make a donation, as a donation of any
size would be greatly appreciated. Checks or money orders for this
project can be written out to the "Tucker Foundation" and mailed to:
Tucker Foundation, c/o Tanvir Kabir, 6154 South Fairbanks Hall
Hanover, NH. We are a non-profit, charity organization, and all
donations are tax-deductible: tax ID- 02-0222111.
I am very excited about the potential to rebuild this orphanage and
create a real world education legacy at Dartmouth; it's such a great
opportunity to include in my educational career. As soon as we raise
enough money, the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology
will immediately begin the construction.
