On September 16th, 2006 the William Jewett Tucker Foundation hosted its 4th annual Run and Rally. The Run and Rally is a five-kilometer race in honor of the incoming freshmen, and is held to raise awareness for the Tucker Foundation. The 2006 event was a huge success with a record number 327 students participating on a picture perfect fall day; this number of participants was more than double the 2004 participation for the event. In addition to the Tucker Civic Interns, members of the Dartmouth men's cross country team came out to help volunteer at the event. Before the race went off, Dean Stuart Lord spoke on behalf of the foundation outlining the various activities that go on in Tucker and espousing the necessity of service in a Dartmouth education. After the race, Prizes donated from various Hanover businesses were rewarded to the first, second, and third runners with the 100th and 200th finishers also earning prizes as well. Additionally, all finishers and volunteers received a Tucker Nalgene bottle. Upon finishing the race students relaxed with free food and cheered on their fellow classmates as they crossed the finish line. The 2006 Run and Rally set a precedent for future events, and provided the members of the 2010 class with a positive experience that hopefully will lead them to get further involved with the Tucker Foundation in the subsequent years.
