Buenos Aires, Argentina

Jerome's Fellowship with ph15 embodies his passion for photography with his developing concept of community service.  Ph15 was founded in 2000 by photographer Martin Rosenthal in an effort to reach out to inner city children of Buenos Aires.  Through photography, ph15 helps children develop a sense of individuality and empowerment, in turn improving their life conditions.  At ph15, Jerome will not only be assisting in technical aspects of photography, but he will also be serving as a peer advisor to the children.  His responsibilities include one-on-one assistance both inside and outside of the classroom and fostering dialogue with his students about their work.  Jerome expresses his desire to serve as a positive influence in these children's lives, saying, "I believe, from my personal experiences, that my help here can play a significant role in getting students over some of the bumps in the road on the way to a fascinating discovery."  Furthermore, Jerome recognizes the advantages we are given in our society, admitting, "I do know that I've been very blessed in my life, and that I certainly have the time and energy to contribute in what way I can to theirs."

Highlighted DPCS Intern: Claire Dunning '08

Women's Law Project

Philadelphia, PA

Mentor: Carol Neitz '79

Claire Dunning is a History major and Public Policy minor from Massachusetts. Claire has been an active member of the Dartmouth Women's Crew Team, an experience which has taught her strong leadership and motivational skills. While in high school, Claire organized a book drive in order to start a library at the local elementary school; three years of heading the book drive showed Claire the importance of affecting change within her own locality. An experience which changed Claire's life and taught her the value of diversity was having an AFS host sister. Claire facilitated interaction between other host siblings and discussed American schooling with AFS students. Claire also worked at a small real estate company during the summer of 2004 and learned the importance of cooperation and hard work.

While interning at the Women's Law project, Claire will mostly work as a Telephone Counselor. She will be responsible for providing legal information and extensive referrals in response to callers. Claire will also devote a portion of her time to organizing meetings of women and helping with outreach into various communities.

Claire discusses her reasons for working with the Women's Law Project by saying, "I also value equality and feel that all people, regardless of socioeconomic status, gender, or race deserve equal representation under the law. The WLP shares this value and is focused on ensuring that all women have equal availability to information concerning the judiciary process."
