Overview

From time to time the Tucker Foundation highlights particular programs or events on this web site. Highlights that we believe to be of continuing interest are available in the highlights section. To recognize the special contributions of Dartmouth students to its mission, Tucker also produces a Student Spotlight pamphlet. Regular publications, such as Tucker Points, speeches from Dean Stuart C. Lord, and Chapel Service sermons are available in the publications section.

Candlelight vigil on the green

Here in Hanover, Dartmouth in general I feel like a lot of- a lot of students are placed in a track that they find hard to break out of.  There’s an investment track, the consulting track, med school track - about five major career choices.  Being exposed to something like the hurricane ravaged area shows you that you can use your life to do a whole gamut of different activities and then maybe ultimately use the experiences to come back to, say, a law degree or a M.D. or go into investment banking.  But while you’re young and you have opportunity knocking at your door, going out and experiencing what there is to see and getting your hands dirty is one of the most rewarding things you can do.

The Tucker Foundation has helped me personally see that I have a larger role to play in a community whether that be local, state, national or global; that as someone with an education, both academic, spiritual and interpersonal I have something else to give besides what I thought I had to give when I came into Dartmouth.  I no longer just see myself as going through life for my own personal good, or that of the people that are  directly around me.  I feel like there’s a much larger impact that I have to make on society because I’ve seen how much there needs to be done.
