Spring 2012 DPCS Interns

Whitney Woodcox '13whitney

Mentor: Haig Kazazian MD '59
Psychology Department Intern
Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center (Baltimore, MD)

Whitney will be working at the Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in the Psychology Department. As an intern, she will be working alongside clinicians to assist patients that suffer from psychological illnesses. Through games and activities with the Creative Health Initiatives, she will help patients learn how to better acclimate into society so that they can better overcome the frequent stigmatization felt in the mental illness community. Whitney's interest in psychological illnesses stems from her academic interests in psychology and she has taken many courses, such as social psychology, which will help prepare her for this internship. She hopes that this internship will empower her to address societal views on mental illness as well as giving her an experiential foundation in her dream career: clinical psychology.

Odochi Uwazurike '13odochi

Mentor: Anne V. McCune '79, Leroy McCune '78, DMS '81
Recreational Outreach Intern
Roswell Park Cancer Institute (Buffalo, NY)

Odochi will be working at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, which provides research, treatment, and support programs for patients and families affected by cancer. As an intern, Odochi will be spending his time creating a recreational visiting program for patients suffering from Leukemia as well as providing support to other patients. He has done research before for the institute and would like to continue his involvement with the organization in a fuller capacity. He hopes that he can alleviate the burden faced by cancer patients as well as contribute to research that can save lives. Odochi hopes to pursue a Ph.D. and work on improving cancer therapies and treatments so this internship is a significant stepping stone toward those goals.
