Emily Jones '08

Emily Jones '08Teacher at Sahasra Deepika Institute
Bangalore, India

Emily's Fellowship will be with the Sahasra Deepika Institute, a school located near Bangalore, India. Emily will be teaching a three-course curriculum to homeless and orphan children; her curriculum focuses on English speaking, basic business skills, and Indian women in history. Her belief in gender equality inspires her focus on female historical figures, which she hopes will deepen her students' sensitivity to gender inequities in India.

Ultimately, Emily hopes that her project "might help make up for the economic, social, and cultural disadvantages that these children face." In addition to her interest in education in underdeveloped communities, Emily looks forward to learning more about the Hindu religion. She says, "I am fascinated with the commonalities between religions and am a firm believer in the importance of centering oneself to grow."
