Louisa Thompson '08

Louisa Thompson '08HIV/AIDS Awareness and Clinic Volunteer
Blue Roof /Keep A Child Alive (KCA)
Wentworth, South Africa/New York, NY

Louisa's Fellowship is a two-fold project: she will spend four weeks in the Blue Roof's HIV/AIDS clinic in South Africa and four weeks in Keep A Child Alive's HIV/AIDS education and outreach program in New York. While at Blue Roof, Louisa will be involved in patient care and assisting medical workers in home healthcare visits. She also hopes to study youth activism in South Africa and incorporate what she learns into her project at Keep A Child Alive. At KCA, Louisa wants to use her experience in the Blue Roof clinic to educate urban youth in the community and encourage youth activism as a tool to fight against HIV/AIDS.

After her fellowship, Louisa plans to start a KCA chapter on the Dartmouth Campus to raise awareness and encourage activism. "This is not only a battle for the millions suffering in South Africa," writes Louisa, "but is our battle as the future doctors, lawyers, and business owners of the world."
