Intern at the Costa
Rican Humanitarian Foundation
San Jose, Costa Rica
Rigel will be working at the Costa Rican Humanitarian Foundation on a number
of projects for the betterment of the San Jose community. Teaching English,
helping groups of former street kids assimilate into employment, working in
medical clinics, assisting in numerous schools and orphanages and working with
and creating women’s groups for activism are among some of the projects Rigel
will be involved with during his fellowship.
During his fellowship, Rigel hopes to be able to improve his Spanish and to
develop a global perspective. He also has identified parallels between his
fellowship work and his activist work with the Gay Straight Alliance and
Inter-Community Council on campus at Dartmouth. As he puts it, “I will be
helping communities to better organize themselves; I will be reducing hostility
between groups of people.”
