The Dartmouth Partners in Community Service (DPCS) program allows Dartmouth students to invest in their civic growth, personal development, and liberal arts education by participating in full-time, leave-term community service internships anywhere in the U.S., including the student's hometown and the Upper Valley. Internships can be undertaken during a leave-term or the summer following graduation. Interns are matched with Dartmouth alumni or alumni spouses, who serve as mentors. A file of DPCS opportunities and placement files is maintained in the Fellowships and Internships Resource Center at the Tucker Foundation, and on the web at: http://www.dartmouth.edu/~dpcs. Interns are also able to investigate Community Service Organizations not currently listed in the DPCS files, as long as these programs meet the criteria for a DPCS internship.
 You are encouraged to select a DPCS placement that is personally challenging and allows you to build upon your particular skills, talents and experiences. The internship placement should expose you to "real world" problems and solutions and stimulate both reflection and action regarding good citizenship and service to others.
Once you have identified a community service organization of interest, you should contact the agency to discuss the internship position. To be eligible for the DPCS internship, you must submit your application, two (2) letters of recommendation, your resume, and completed CSO Supervisor's Statement of Agreement Form. One letter of recommendation must come from a Dartmouth faculty member; the other may come from anyone who knows you personally--a high school teacher, a past or present employer, a dean, or a friend. Letters of recommendation may not be submitted by a Tucker staff member. All application materials must be sent to Tracy Dustin-Eichler at the Tucker Foundation, 6154 South Fairbanks Hall, Hanover, NH 03755 or to HB 6154 by the appropriate application deadline.
All applicants will be interviewed by the DPCS Review Committee, usually consisting of the Program Officer for National Service, the VISTA for National Service, the DPCS Student Director, and two representatives from the DPCS Alumni Board. Deadlines for the application are generally mid-term during all terms. Those students who are off-campus during the appropriate review term may arrange for review even though they are off-campus. All deadlines will be posted in the Tucker Foundation, in The Dartmouth, and on the Tucker Foundation website. After the DPCS applicant is selected, he or she must contact the CSO again to finalize dates of service and work out specific details of the job. The intern will also be assigned an alumni mentor.
Funding supports project expenses up to $4000. Applicants are encouraged to ask their CSO for funds or in-kind donations (such as room and board).
 A ten-page reflection paper is required from the student at the end of the project and is due on the first day of the term following the term of internship. A one-on-one debriefing for all interns will also be required. The Tucker Foundation makes an effort to continue to involve interns in Foundation programming after their return.
