Program Description

  • Dartmouth volunteers read with disadvantaged kids age 5-13 at Northwoods and Hollow Drive in White River Junction, VT.
  • The aim of the program is to promote literacy among the children these affordable housing sites and bring reading into their neighborhood and homes.
  • Dartmouth students form a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a child.
  • Reading and literacy related games are played both in the community apartment and in individual homes.

Focus Areas

A synergy of reading, writing and mentoring is the main focus of the program.

Time Commitment

Two hours, once a week. A multiple term commitment is helpful but not required.
