Program Description

Dartmouth volunteers read with disadvantaged kids age 5-13 at Northwoods and Hollow Drive in White River Junction, VT.
The aim of the program is to promote literacy among the children these affordable housing sites and bring reading into their neighborhood and homes.
Dartmouth students form a one-on-one mentoring relationship with a child.
Reading and literacy related games are played both in the community apartment and in individual homes.

Focus Areas

A synergy of reading, writing and mentoring is the main focus of the program.

Time Commitment

Two hours, once a week. A multiple term commitment is helpful but not required.
