MoneySmart

Program Description

MoneySmartMoneySmart was founded to deliver a comprehensive financial education program to Upper Valley residents of all ages and socioeconomic backgrounds, with a focus on at-risk community members. In a series of seminars, Dartmouth volunteers will teach topics including credit, banking, spending and saving, goal setting, etc. These will be presented at local middle schools, high schools, and community centers in short, interactive lessons.

Dartmouth volunteers are expected to commit over several terms, and will be familiarized with the relevant material and teaching strategies at the beginning of the term. After completing their brief training program, they will be expected to make contact with a school or community center to arrange a teaching session. Guidance will be offered to new mentors to aid their transition into the program. Contact with the community member students is encouraged, to establish personal interactions that facilitate learning.

Time Commitment

  • Mandatory orientation and training sessions at the beginning of your first term volunteering for MoneySmart.
  • Teaching, with a partner or individually, at least one class in the community per month after your training period.
  • Weekly meetings to discuss and revise
