Early College Awareness

Program Description

Early College AwarenessECA seeks to promote higher education among spe¬cific groups, including under-resourced and first-gen¬eration students. Currently the program works with the students of Steven’s High School in Claremont, NH. The program coordinates three different service areas listed below:

  • SAT TUTORING (Wednesdays & Fridays)
Students and tutors twice weekly in Stevens’ library for one-on-one SAT tutoring sessions.
  • IN-CLASS ALGEBRA TUTOTING (Wednesdays, Fridays, & Saturdays)
Dartmouth Volunteers visit the classrooms of algebra teachers at Steven’s High School. The school’s math department is highly under-resourced, and many Stevens students invariably score poorly on the math section of the SAT. The tutoring done by volun¬teers drastically reduces the strain on teachers and supplemented the SAT tutoring program by teaching algebra.>
  • COLLEGE VISITS (Fridays & Saturdays)
Dartmouth Volunteers will direct tours of local col¬leges. Stevens students will have an opportunity to meet with college administrators and discuss topics like financial aid, student life, and academic opportu¬nities. This part of the program encourages interest in the college application process.

Time Commitment

  • A mandatory training session at the beginning of your first term with ECA.
