Dartmouth Outdoor Leadership Experience (OLE)

Program Description

Outdoor Leadership Experience (O.L.E.) is a Tucker Foundation, outdoor mentoring program for middle schoolers at the Indian River School in Mascoma, NH. OLE seeks to build self esteem, group dynamics, and develop leadership skills through teaching outdoor skills. Some of the skills taught include hiking, xc skiing, canoeing, fire building, shelter building, cooking, etc.

O.L.E. operates under three main guidelines:

  1. Provide a safe space free from physical and verbal harm.
  2. Teach skills centered around the outdoors (therefore everything we do must be geared towards the outdoors)
  3. Provide fun for everyone.

Time Committment

OLE mentors work with the students for approximately 5 hours each week. In addition to the time mentoring, volunteers are expected to attend a number of training, reflection and planning meetings.
