Student Conference on Global Learning

CALL FOR PRESENTATIONS:

STUDENT CONFERENCE ON GLOBAL LEARNING:

Where do we go from here?

Have you had a meaningful cross‐cultural experience that made you:

  • re‐examine your world view?
  • helped you see first‐hand the interconnectedness of global issues?
  • allowed you to engage in solutions to societal problems?
  • forced you to question your “power” and ability to bring about social, political, or economic change?

If so, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU! (click for conference presenter form)

Dartmouth students have the unique opportunity and the significant responsibility to

share what they have learned with others. The Student Conference on Global Learning

intends to engage Dartmouth students with some of the most pressing issues of our

time. We hope conference participants will explore the interconnectedness of global

issues, societal problems, potential solutions, and their role and responsibility in helping

effect change.

************************************************************************

This is a call for dynamic student presentations for the inaugural conference taking place

on Monday, January 18th, 2010 (MLK Day).

We are asking presenters to critically reflect upon learning that happened in a global

context and how their understanding of global issues, other cultures, and/or self were

enhanced by cross‐cultural experience.

Our theme this year, “Where do we go from here?” is inspired by Dr. King’s 1967 speech

of the same name. In it, Dr. King suggests that the problems in our society (and in the

world) are interrelated. If we hope to move forward we have to ask substantive

questions that make us rethink our way of doing, acting, and envisioning our world.

With this in mind, we ask students to consider their global experiences and how these

opportunities allowed them to question their views on the world and the

interconnectedness of global issues, societal problems, and potential solutions.

The Student Conference on Global Learning will take place in the Haldeman Center on

Monday, January 18th (MLK Day) from 10am‐3pm. The conference is open to ALL

Dartmouth students and there will be no cost to attend.

Submit a proposal and share your experience with your fellow students!
