How have your Tucker experiences affected you?
Working for America Reads, I feel as though I can be a part of the larger Upper Valley community, beyond the confines of campus. This connection has allowed me to feel more at home here - not to mention I've gotten to work with some amazing kids. Tucker experiences outside of AR have also been incredibly enriching for me. I've found conversations at Tucker - about faith, about life's big questions, about social justice - that I can't seem to find anywhere else on campus.
What has surprised you about life at Dartmouth?
When I first chose to come to Dartmouth, I thought that college meant that I would be staying up late, talking with floormates about our most interesting thoughts and passions. At Dartmouth, at least, I was surprised by how hard those conversations are to come by. Everyone here is passionate about something, and everyone is impressive, and I love it! But I think at times we're a little worried about sharing those passions with others, and I only wish I could hear more about what makes my peers tick.
What do you love about America Reads?
What I love about America Reads, first and foremost, is getting to see students begin to embrace reading, see them get excited about reading out loud to their classmates. I love that, as Student Director, I get to facilitate that experience for over 50 other Dartmouth students working in 14 different classrooms.
What would you say to a student who is trying to get involved at Tucker?
Come on in! The number of programs at Tucker can be a bit overwhelming, and it took me a while to find the right fit for my schedule and interests, but the time I spend at Tucker or at our elementary schools has encompassed some of my most rewarding moments at Dartmouth.
What is one fun fact about you?
I once won $50 in a hula hooping competition.
