Commitment to Diversity

The following is excerpted from the Tucker Foundation Diversity Plan, which was submitted to the Provost on January 30, 2002:

The Tucker Foundation accepts the obligation to play a crucial role in the implementation and success of the Diversity Initiative. We must evaluate how well we prepare our students to think and act as ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community, as well as how well we serve our community, and how well we serve our diverse constituencies. Our programs and practices have great potential for advancing diversity at Dartmouth and beyond.

The College’s mission statement commits the college to "enriching the Dartmouth educational and social experience by attracting and retaining gifted and talented students, faculty and staff of diverse backgrounds, experiences, races, and economic circumstances." The Tucker Foundation reaffirms and supports the mission statement and the goals set forth by the Provost’s Office.

As a part of the annual budgeting process, the Tucker Foundation will allocate resources to support diversity activities and initiatives. These allocations should correspond to our diversity goals indicated in this diversity plan submitted to the Provost's office. In our annual reports to the Provost, the Tucker Foundation will describe how funds and resources were used, including additional resources secured through grants.

The Tucker Foundation will evaluate and design policies and services that recognize the diverse constituencies we serve. We will integrate diversity goals into our planning and decision-making processes. We will increase our overall effectiveness in intensifying diversity initiatives within our programs and practices.

The Tucker Foundation will actively create opportunities for professional and student staff ot increase their skills and competencies in the value added aspect of embracing diversity and to openly discuss the goals of this plan as well as other issues relating to diversity with their colleagues during orientations and ongoing professional development. The Tucker Foundation will work to ensure that Dartmouth's Commitment to Diversity is communicated to all Tucker Staff.

ALL DEPARTMENTS AND THEIR EMPLOYEES ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS DIVERSITY PLAN.
