The Dolphin

The Pearl

The Pansy

To the ancient Greeks, the dolphin was a good omen, symbolizing rebirth, friendship, and leadership. Poseidon was pictured driving a chariot propelled by dolphins. In Tri Delta, the dolphin is symbolic of "clear skies and smooth sailing" and has special significance for the fraternity's elected officers.
The pearl was chosen to symbolize the new member because it is the one jewel that grows, developing from a tiny nucleus into a thing of value and beauty. It symbolizes the love our members have for each other, the white purity of true friendship and the beauty of spirit among us pledge members. Just as Tri Delta friendship grows stronger each year, pearls grow lovelier with time.

The Pansy is symbolic of our alumnae and of the third step in the lifetime development of Delta Delta Delta members. With its open face always turned toward the sky, the pansy suggests tenderness in friendship. Such friendship is to be expected among Tri Deltas because they have grown under the influence of beautiful ideals and have had the opportunity to develop understanding and sympathy. It takes many years to achieve this growth. Our alumnae are represented by the pansy, whose many colors show the varied qualities of a well rounded person.

The Pine

Poseidon

Flag

The Pine was chosen to represent the collegiate member. It stands for strong character, ever beautiful, stately and growing. The pine is straight and tall and gives the feeling of being deeply rooted. Once it was a small seed which attained strength with growth by being under the right influence, thus representing our collegiate members.

The patron of Greek divinity is Poseidon, god of the sea and one of the three rulers of the universe. The name Poseidon means either “husband of earth” or “lord of the earth.” Traditionally he was a son of Cronus, an ancient chief god, and Rhea, a fertility goddess, and was brother of Zeus, the chief god, and Hades, god of the underworld. When the three brothers deposed their father, the kingdom of the sea fell by lot to Poseidon. His weapon was the trident.
The flag was adopted by the 1906 Convention.

New Member Pin

Emblem

Colors

The pin has three open deltas inscribed within an open delta and is executed in silver with green enamel. It is worn during the introduction to membership but is returned to the chapter prior to initiation.

This is the official emblem worn by initiated members of Delta Delta Delta, both collegiate and alumnae. The badge consists of three stars, crown set with pearls, within a plain Roman golden crescent of three hundred degrees bearing three deltas in black enamel. Tri Delta inititates receive a Stars and Crescent badge with the member's initials, the Greek letters of her chapter, and her chapter initiation number engraved on the back. The badge belongs to Tri Delta and is lent to each member during her lifetime or as long as she remains a member.

Tri Delta's colors are silver, gold and cerulean blue. Green is also significant for Tri Delta as it represents the union of the three colors.
