Introduction to the Newsletter

Welcome to the 3rd edition of the Gamma Gamma Chapter Tri Delta newsletter! We have had a lot going on this summer, and we are so excited to share it with everyone. The goal of the newsletter is to put our current members, parents, and alumnae in contact with each other in the hope of developing a better sense of our Tri Delta community. If you have any comments or suggestions for improvement, please email our current Alumnae Relations Chair, who can always be reached at gammagamma@dartmouth.edu. Thanks for reading, and enjoy.

A Note from the Summer President
Claire Arthurs, '05

Dear Sisters, Alumnae, Family and Friends:

Sophomore Summer represents a unique time in the 'Dartmouth experience': Only a few months after becoming Sisters, the '05 class was met with the challenge of leading the house and given the privilege to make it our own. With only a few weeks to settle in before the term got busy, both in terms of school and house events, we were all a little apprehensive about our new roles. Events at the beginning of the term such as the "Welcome Back" BBQ, and a Sisters' Only "Murder Mystery" Dinner helped to break the ice and get us all excited about meeting each other, working together and all the fun times that lay ahead!

Throughout the term, Sisters willingly took advantage of opportunities to get to know one another, and to get involved in the house. Each officer had many duties and fulfilled them above and beyond the standards of the college, and the chapter. Individual members were enthusiastic about attending meetings, and were always anxious to participate in TriDelt sponsored events around campus.

One highlight of Sophomore Summer that many classes share is Tubestock, and our class was no different! Our T-Shirt Chairs made cute and spirited T-shirts to commemorate the event, and our Tubestock Chairs planned a delicious bagel brunch, as well as built a sturdy raft for all the Deltas on the river to enjoy!

Whether it was philanthropy events, social events, Wednesday night meetings, house clean up days, the formal, or just hanging out with other sisters, this term has been an amazing opportunity to get to know each other and has been a phenomenal success!

As we leave this amazing term behind, we will each take a different path. Some staying on campus, others returning home, and still others traveling to exciting internships and study abroad programs. Regardless of our destination, we will leave our Sophomore Summer having gained confidence in ourselves as members and leaders of the house, and having formed everlasting friendships.
Dluv,
Claire

first formal meetings of the term

Administration Team

Vice President of Administration - Kaitlin Jaxheimer
Our summer sisterhood exuded tons of sparkles and strength of leadership. Not only did our sisters bond, but they have finally immersed themselves into the house and taken it on as their own by creating many events that filled our calendar to the brim. As the active sisterhood was smaller than most other
terms, a higher percentage of women were officers who took their jobs seriously, held themselves and their sisters accountable for their actions as sisters and leaders, and also took pride in their roles in the house. This delta-pride is certainly contagious and we hope that we can help it to continue to spread to the upperclassmen when they return!

Houseman - Colleen Harrison
As house manager for the summer I was in charge of maintaining the physical property and keeping the sisters living in the house up to date with news from the Office of Residential Life. I also supervised a two-day house clean-up during which we completely reorganized the Tribrary and made the house fabulous for the Sophomore Parents' Weekend Brunch. As the term draws to a close, I am now working on arranging storage and interim services for the sisters.

Prouty Walk Participants display their numbers

Secretary - Kate Strayer-Benton
As secretary, I attended all Chapter and Officers' Council Meetings and kept a written record of the minutes. Despite a freak river accident leaving me temporarily disabled with an injury to my right wrist/thumb, I was able to overcome the challenge and maintain order, continuing to serve the Gamma Gamma Chapter of Delta Delta Delta as the Summer Secretary. All OC Meeting Minutes are available electronically, blitz k8 with requests. The notebook containing all minutes will remain on file at 1 Occum Road.

Chapter Development Team

Vice President Chapter Development - Caitlin Farrell
We've had a fabulous summer term! We've had amazing, strong women over at Tridelt; tea talks with Mrs. Susan Wright and Dean Sylvia Langford provided great opportunities to talk informally and discuss issues like women's changing roles on campus while munching on delicious mini-muffins. During Secret Summer Sister week, '05 sisters were secretly matched and then showered one another with coupons for free massages, chocolate chip cookies, dolphin balloons, etc.. The week accumulated in a big bagel brunch right before Tubestock, as sisters revealed their identities. During the field consultant visit, there was a big BBQ, and despite the rain, we had plenty of hotdogs and hamburgers for everyone. We hosted a sundae-social also that weekend to provide sisters another chance to meet and chat with the national representative.

Continuing Education Chair - Sarah Messner
Each week at meetings I recognized "Sisters of the Week" and told everyone a little bit about a few sisters. I gave two presentations at meetings - an M&M activity to learn about each other, and an activity to learn a bit more about how tridelt was founded, where I read the history of tridelt.
**Genevieve Deppe really enjoyed Sarah Messner's "M& M" activity. She said "I thought it was a good way to get to know sisters better that you might otherwise not get a chance to talk to in that same friendly atmosphere."**

Academic Chair - Juliana Lisi
Each week, Tridelt recognizes girls whose performance in class or their field of study is to be commended. Sisters blitz in names and "Smart Cookies" are awarded to each "smart" sister. This term, Tridelt hosted a professor lecture by Graziella Parati, of the Italian, Comparative Literature, and Women's Studies departments. Also, this term's project has been to get a house computer set up for communal use.

Finance Team

Vice President of Finance - Amanda Jaber
I handled most of the money issues for TriDelt this summer. This term we really focused on personal accountability, and all of the officers were helpful when it came to staying within their budget and handing in receipts. We are also working towards a more strict 30 - 60 - 90 policy. We tried to distribute the budget so that members would have the opportunity to participate in more events. It was an unforgettable summer. Thanks for all the memories. To support our programming and campus events, we would hope that both our alumnae and family members would consider sending any modest donation, with checks being made payable to Delta Delta Delta Fund.

Treasurer -Maria Perez
Maria diligently attended all necessary meetings and was a great assistant to Amanda Jaber with her finance duties.

Public Relations Team

Vice President of Public Relations - Carolyn Steinmetz
I have been implementing a new program where we receive the weekly newsletters over blitz as well as in our hinman boxes. To boost our relations with other sororities, I am starting to send out notes wishing other sororities at Dartmouth good luck on finals. Hopefully this will be continued.

Alumni Relations Chair - Kristy Charbonneau
I was pretty busy early on in the summer with Alumni Penpals program, which seemed to get a great response! From what I hear, girls have already contacted their penpals and the process is underway. I have also been keeping my ear out for any alums coming to the area, and if there are any coming for the rest of the summer, please blitz me, because you are welcome at the house if school is still in session!

Panhell Representative - Jhilam Biswas
My job was to attend all of the Pan Hel meetings, help with the programs the group organized, and relay information from the all-school sorority council to meetings at Tridelt. I also had two other representatives who came with me to all of the meetings: Sudeshna Chatterjee and Margot Laporte who were Panhell Delegates.

Philanthropy Chair - Renee DeLellis

This term was full of philanthropy and fun! We participated in 8 projects and completed over 120 hours of service as a house. Outside of house service projects, our members completed over 600 hours of service.
We did three bake sales to make over $1400 for organizations such as Hannah's House, WISE and Students Fighting Hunger.
Our house was a rest/water stop for the Prouty Walk/Run for Cancer and we also helped serve dinner and make cookies for Circus Schmercus, an event that benefits Children's Hospital at Dartmouth (CHaD) so we did very creative projects to help TriDelt's main service support group, cancer research and treatment.
Our sisters also cooked a complete meal for SEAD, a group that brings underprivledged students up to Dartmouth's campus in order to further their interests in schooling with the aim of helping them attend college. We also provided an end of the term BBQ and water fight for the kids and mentors in DREAM. This was in conjunction with the brothers of AD. It was really amazing to hang out with these boys in a non-frat environment. I can foresee great things with these young men ;)
We also had an awesome day restoring a house in Lebanon. About nine sisters helped COVER with their summer house project. Helping ranged from tearing up and resetting a wooden floor to scraping off paint to puttying walls and sweeping. Overall, it was a great experience to get "down and dirty" and actually see instant gratification. The house definitely looked better as we left...I think all the girls want to see the finished project! Here's hoping for many more hours of philanthropy and lots of fun!

Social Events - Felicia Yu and Sarah Stein

After the first full week of class, we had a barbeque with Phidelt. It was a great way to start the summer off! There was lots of food, and the brothers did all the grilling, and we brought the cookies obviously. For July 4th, we had a barbeque with Chi Heorot and in between eating and talking to the brothers, everyone was in the Heorot pool or playing on the Tridelt slip-n-slide. On July 12th, we threw a semi-formal-attire Crush Party with Sigma Delta. Each girl had the option of inviting two crushes. It was quite a success, the crushes were excited to come and many were dressed quite nicely. We had joint meetings with ChiGam in July which is good for a change of pace. We had mixers with a number of fraternities including: Theta Delt (Pajama Party theme), Trikap, Sig Ep, and Alpha Chi in July and early August. We are hoping to have an event with Chi Heorot this coming up weekend where the sisters are able to mingle with the brothers before their potential dance party.

Formal Chairs - Tracey Shechtman and Neha Kulkarni
Our formal this year was held at the Lilac Inn in Brandon, Vermont. The boys of Sig Ep cohosted the affair. The hotel was beautiful, the food was great, and Muffie (the manager of the inn) was awesome! Despite being eaten alive by mosquitos, everyone seemed to really enjoy the entire evening.

Fun times at the Summer Formal on August 7th, 2003

Risk Management Chair - Megan Escherich

Tridelt co-sponsored two events this summer. One was a women's health discussion with KDE led by the director of women's health at Dicks House, Elizabeth Hirsh. Elizabeth came to the house and we had a very informative discussion about physical, emotional and sexual health that included such topics as birth control, STI prevention, and the resources that Dick's house provides. The second event that we will host is an eating disorders awareness/discussion panel with Alpha Xi. Nutritionist Claudette Peck and coordinator of health education programs Laura Rubinstein will facilitate a discussion that we intend to open to the campus about body image at Dartmouth.

Membership Team

VP Member Development
The position really focuses on strengthening the sisterhood and in particular during Sophomore Summer works to get girls excited about being members of TriDelta and hopefully encourage them to look into holding leadership positions in the future. This summer, we had a few different sisters' only events. The first was a murder mystery dinner, which we all got dressed up for and some sisters played different parts in. We had one "delta day" which was basically snacks on the green on a Thursday, a way for sisters to congregate at a time that they might not normally. We also went blueberry picking, which was tons of fun and made for some delicious muffins and pies! Our last Sisters-Only event will be a trip to club Electra where we can dance it up with some townies!

House Improvements Chair - Eve Russell
As the "house improvements chair" I was in charge of making some aesthetic changes to the house. Initially these things were going to be larger scale improvements (painting the chapter room etc.) but the improvements, when we found out there was no budget, became smaller scale (tape off ceilings, cleaning walls). Sisters all came to the house on one of two days and took part in various chores. We focused our efforts on the "tri-berry" and the chapter room and saw great improvement in the organization and overall look of the place.

Scrapbook Chairs - Layne Moffett and Jessica Sharpless
Layne and I as scrapbook co-chairs make the summer scrapbook. We take photos, collect those of others, note fun events and projects, and write a bit of fun information about each girl. We will be distributing these scrapbooks at the end of the summer or beginning of the fall.

T-Shirt Chairs - Kim Rosensteel and Noa Gafni
As t-shirt chairs we designed 3 delta fun shirts for our sisters to wear: A summer lovin' class shirt, a Tubestock T, and a sexy tank. They were all a big hit!

On the morning of Tubestock!

And if anyone is living in Philly already, please blitz her - she doesn't know too many folks in Philly! She hopes everyone is doing well - she wishes she could've seen the 98's at the reunion, but her brother graduated from Stanford that same weekend, and considering that he sat through a three-hour ceremony in the pouring rain for her back in 98, she couldn't miss seeing him walk.
