EPA-Drinking Water Contaminants and Standards Outlines standards for all aspects of the Safe Drinking Water Act, including rules for specific pollutants and toxins, as well as analysis methods and additional information links.

UNL-Water Quality Web Resources The University of Nebraska-Lincoln Water Quality Web Resource is a database for students and farmers containing sites on every aspect of water quality, from sources of contamination and methods and policies of treatment to education. The site has information about groundwater, agriculture and industry, drinking water, and references to other web information, journals, and federal laws. Provides links to thousands of different sites on water quality. Also includes separate version for kids.

Water Science for Schools US Geological Survey Water Science for Schools site. Very complete, good for children and other school groups. Covers physics, water quality, and water use, neat introduction to water issues in general for kids, although does not cover toxic metals in great detail.

ExtoxNet-Metals in Drinking Water Outlines and provides links to national water quality standards. Provides general overview of drinking water problems. Somewhat simplistic in tone, but good information.

State of Maine Drinking Water Program State of Maine's Drinking Water Program site. Separate pages for treatment, treatment methods, testing, hydrogeology. Includes a very complete links page.

State of Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Different agencies within the State of Maine provide information on well water safety. Includes a very complete links page.

EPA Student Center EPA Student Center is a comprehensive guide by the EPA for middle and high school students on everything from facts on human health, conservation, and recycling, to environmental news updates, internships, and science activities. The site emphasizes water quality and environmental health. Good for a quick update on environmental problems, but not high level or detailed material. Use in conjunction with other resources.
