Carpenter Hall and Sanborn Library

Off to the west of the library you will see Carpenter Hall, which houses the Departments of Women's Studies and Art History and the Sherman Art Library. Sherman contains an extensive collection of printed books, periodicals and other resources that supports the research needs of faculty and students in the visual arts. Also in Carpenter is the Art History Department Visual Resources Collection, a collection of slides and digital images that support teaching at Dartmouth, including the online image study tool for students called Artemisia.

Women's Studies was established in 1978 and has offered a major since 1993. It was the first Women's Studies Program in any of the previously all-male Ivy League colleges.

Sanborn Library

Sanborn House contains the English Department, the Sanborn Library, and the Composition Center. Tea is served in Sanborn Library every weekday at 4:00pm; students and professors gather in this beautiful library to enjoy a work break of English-style tea and cookies. One student has a work-study job as the tea-server.

Returning to College Street, turn right. On your right will be the Green again.
