Computing at Dartmouth
Much of Dartmouth's technology support services are now located in the new Berry Library. Berry contains public computer clusters with Mac, Windows and Unix workstations, special classrooms outfitted for technology instruction, video production labs, multimedia resources, geographic information systems, and public printing services.
Dartmouth has led in the field of educational computer usage. Dartmouth was the first school to install a campus-wide data network in 1983. During the Spring of 2001, Dartmouth will become one of the first schools in the nation to premiere a wireless campus network. Today, there are over 12,000 personal computers in use campus-wide. Many students don't use the phone here – instead, students, professors, and administration communicate via BlitzMail, our campus email network. All students are required to purchase or bring their own personal computers. Computers are sold to students at a discount through the College and the cost of a personal computer is added to first-year students’ financial aid award.
