The Dartmouth Medical School, the fourth oldest in the nation, is a component of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC), which includes the Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital, the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, and the White River Junction (VT) Veterans Administration Hospital.
The Dartmouth-Hitchock Clinic, headquartered at DHMC, is one of the nation’s 10 largest group practices. DHMC, a state-of-the-art facility located on a 225-acre campus, serves a population of 1.6 million people. It includes 396 beds in two five-story in-patient towers, a diagnostic and treatment center, an ambulatory care building, the cancer center, the Borwell Research Building, and a student center. Ground was broken in 2002 for an expansion totaling over $200 million.
