Events Calendar Testing Club Outings Tournament News

Every term we will try to attend at least 1 or 2 tournaments, a few club outings, and as occasion calls, we will also offer demonstrations for other organizations and the community. If you would like to request a demonstration, please feel free to contact us!

Testing

Over the course of our 10-week terms, our instructors hold in house testings at Dartmouth for those students who are qualified. In general, you must train three months in between testings, with the exception of white belt (10th gup) to yellow stripe (9th gup), which occurs for beginners halfway through their first term of training. After attaining the rank of red belt, you must train six months before you test for high red (1st gup), followed by another six months before recommended black. Although a black belt may seem like a long way away, if you begin studying taekwondo at the beginning of your freshman year and you train seriously, you could earn your black belt before graduation.

Master Blais and Master Del Porte conduct the testings using their Association's system. Goal sheets will be provided, outlining the information you must learn for your next test. To obtain your own copy of your goal sheets, visit the blue wave website: http://www.bluewavetkd.com and click on the testing link. You will be tested on basics (such as kicks or hand techniques appropriate to your level), forms or poomsae, one-steps, sparring (after green belt), self defense (after blue belt), and verbal information. Many people neglect the verbal information, but it's really quite important that one masters such information as it provides for a deeper understanding of taekwondo itself. If you have any questions about testing, do not hesitate to ask one of the officers or one of the instructors. We're here to help!

Club Outings

Saturday Athlete Training Program: Held in Burlington, VT at Master White's dojang, at Master DelPorte's dojang in Lebanon, or Mr. Klein's dojang in Bradford. This is open to all students YELLOW BELT and ABOVE. It's a great way to practice sparring as well as meet members of our affiliated organization, the Blue Wave Association. These will take place most saturdays at one location or another. Email the club or talk to an officer if your interested in training.

Blue Wave Winter and Summer Camps: Held in March and August respectively. Again, great way to touch base with Blue Wave members and just have a great time attending tkd seminars and doing what we love.

Tournament Info

Every term we try to attend and compete in at least one or two tournaments. Every individual competes with unique goals and motivations in mind, whether it be to test his or her skills beyond the classroom, learn about styles from other competitors all over the world, or just to meet new people and have fun. But above all else, we are a team, and we encourage everyone, especially newcomers, to come along and enjoy the ride. Participation is not requisite, but cheering and support are!

Within this section lies information about official WTF rules and divisions governing these tournaments, in addition to results from past tournaments and etiquette. See the Photos/Videos section for a glimpse of the action!

Tournament Results

See
Events Calendar for upcoming info. Remember also that we work as a team, and that both victories and losses are shared by everyone. Whether one wins a medal or not finally boils down to a subjective decision, which may or may not be fair, but it is the competitors' and supporters' attitudes that really count.

This was a relatively small tournament, with no mats and only 1 electronic scoring ring for sparring.

Nonetheless, we had a great time - this was a first tournament for most of our competitors, and everyone performed superbly!
