DARTMOUTH TAEKWONDO CONSTITUTION
- to provide training and instruction opportunities to those who are interested in practicing Taekwondo at Dartmouth College
- to foster the development of a strong body and mind
- to provide opportunities for those who wish to compete at the collegiate level
- to foster the development of courtesy, integrity, perseverance, indomitable spirit, and self-control (the 5 tenets of taekwondo)
- to create a team atmosphere where old members and new feel comfortable
- qualified members will be allowed to participate in voting exercises
- a qualified member is defined as someone who:
1. has paid dues for the term
2. has signed the P.E. liability waiver
3. is actively involved and shows interest in taekwondo and attends regularly, namely has attended at least 15 practices during the current term, or has attended a percentage of these if the person has recently joined mid-way through the term
4. Those who have been actively involved in the term prior to voting and can be defined as qualified members who are taking an off-term will be allowed to vote via email
- voting will take place annually during the last few weeks of the spring term
- all elected offices will have terms that last one academic year, beginning in summer term and ending in spring term
- in order to run for office, you must be a qualified voting member
- a candidate must have a D-plan in which they will be on campus for at least 2 of the 3 terms for the year in which they are seeking election (as long as these criteria are met, a candidate who is not present that term may run for election)
- candidates running for the office of either treasurer or secretary must have been actively involved for at least 3 terms prior to the term they are seeking office
- candidates running for the office of the president must have been actively involved for at least 5 terms prior to the term they are seeking office
- offices available for election are: president, vice president, treasurer, secretary
- the voting process will consist of the candidates making brief statements on their behalf followed by voting via blitz and the tallying of votes
- votes will be counted by the current president and recounted by the current vice president; in the event of an absence, either treasurer or secretary will assist in the vote counting process
- a reasonable deadline will be established in order to process votes received from members who are not present.
PRESIDENT
-Oversee the general operations of the club
-Instruct student run practices OR delegate someone else who has sufficient experience (i.e. rank does NOT matter)
-Plan and actively seek out, in conjunction with the other officers, the events for the year, including tournaments, demonstrations, practices, and club outings
-Be willing to provide extra instruction to new members
- Appoint additional positions to delegated duties if necessary (ex. Webmaster, tournment coordinators, etc.)
-Provide excellent leadership and set an example for other members
- seek out affiliations and build good relations with them (ex. Blue Wave Association Schools)
-take part in the training of new officers
VICE PRESIDENT
-Oversee the general operations of the club
-work together with president and other officers to provide effective leadership to members
-assist in instructing student run practices or delegate someone else who has sufficient experience
(if the president is taking an off term, assume the role of president for that term)
-Plan, in conjunction with the other officers, the events for the year, including tournaments, demonstrations, practices, and club outings
-Be willing to provide extra instruction to new members
-Organize equipment purchases, in conjunction with the other officers
-take part in the training of new officers
TREASURER
-collect all club dues and deposit them in the Taekwondo account in the P.E. office
- coordinate individual equipment orders with outside purchasing source
- keep up-to-date records of club budget
-determine who is not up to date with club dues and remind them, ask the president or vice president for help if needed
-In conjunction with the other officers, make club equipment purchases via equipment request forms available in the P.E. office
-take part in the training of new officers
SECRETARY
-record attendance of club members
-grant P.E. credit to those who attend the required number of practices
-keep an up to date inventory of club equipment
-keep the first aid box appropriately supplied (additional supplies are available via the trainer)
-take part in the training of new officers
- acting officers of the club will hold informal meetings to discuss club current affairs at least 3 times per term
- students desiring P.E. credit must attend 2 practices per week. Students are allowed to be absent 3 times throughout the term and still receive P.E. credit
- students will not be penalized if their absence is due to an unusual circumstance or if they have a written note from a doctor or the student infirmary
-club money is to be used only for club purposes, including club equipment such as sparring gear, kicking pads, boards for breaking demonstrations
- club outings as approved by the P.E. office
- any club purchases must be agreed on by the officers and carried out with full knowledge of all officers concerning what is to be purchased
- under no circumstances is club money to be used for personal items including any personal equipment or testing fees
- as of 2002, the dues for Dartmouth Taekwondo are $25 per person, per term
- checks are made payable to "Dartmouth Taekwondo"
- testing fees are determined by the instructor
- provide high quality taekwondo instruction to Dartmouth students
- strive to create an atmosphere of learning, safety, and fun
- conduct belt testings fairly and accurately
- develop a lesson plan and establish standardized criteria for belt testing
- seek to provide instruction that encompasses all of taekwondo, including forms, sparring, self-defense, basic techniques, Korean terminology, and taekwondo philosophy
- set an example for taekwondo students in and out of the training facility, and exemplify the five tenets of taekwondo
- charter revisal forms are available in the P.E. Office
- charter revisions must be agreed upon by at least 3 of the 4 acting officers
