Joan Morris, who has worked for the Theater Department for the past twenty-one years, is an internationally known textile artist specializing in Shibori, or shaped-resist dyeing.  Her work has been shown in Asia, Europe and the United States.  When not working at Dartmouth, she teaches Shibori nationally and internationally.  Since 1997 she has been creating Shibori fabric for Julie Taymor’s award winning Broadway production of The Lion King as well as its international venues and road productions. Joan also has a textile printing business co-owned with Michele Ratte, D '78, Hesperides Research LLC. Together they have developed a printing process allowing them to print precious metals on textiles.
