Spring has come early, and despite the last efforts of winter to the contrary, the snow is now melting rapidly. Birds are singing and pairing off. Trees are budding. Ah, to be alive in spring!
In preparation for the season, I've built a birdhouse suitable for chickadees, nuthatches, or titmice. Tomorrow or the next day I hope to have time to mount it on one of the trees on our property, preferably where we'll be able to watch it from inside our house.
The redpolls finally discovered our thistle feeder this week. We'd only seen one at the feeder previously, and now we've seen all 8 feeding stations taken with other redpolls fighting for position. They've eaten about a pound of thistle seed this week. I wonder when they'll leave for their arctic home?
For entertainment, we're still playing Scrabble a lot, but Karen and I also came up with the idea of getting Shakespeare's complete works and reading the plays out loud. Our first play is The Tempest, which neither of us has read previously. This was inspired by seeing an adaptation of The Tempest performed at the College.
That's all for now!
