Gray Time

The long fall has ended and the reality of winter is confronting us. Today is gray: gray sky, gray light, a gray mood. Clouds, snow, sleet, slush. Gray, leafless trees. Somber, dreary.

Of course, this too shall pass. Before long it will be colder still, and the ground will be covered with glittering snow. There will be brilliant, shiny days with crystal clear skies and bright sun. The night sky will have millions of stars, crossed by the cosmic band of the Milky Way. We'll have rosy cheeks and layers of fuzzy clothes. We'll absorb the heat radiating from the wood stove.

But today is gray.

Karen and I have joined the local Unitarian Universalist church. The congregation are good people, the services are rewarding, and the principles are a good fit for us. We're putting down roots, it would seem.

The election came and went. What can I say? Canada sounds good right about now.

We are still eating our garden produce, although it is all long since harvested except some of the parsley. Not sure if the remaining parsley will survive this week's temperatures.

For the holidays, we're off to Florida for an extravaganza with Karen's relatives. I've never been that fond of Florida, but the weather will be warm and so will the hospitality, I expect.

But it will be good to get back to the gray of home, and then the brilliance of winter.

Peace,

Terry
