Fall is in the air!

Summer is departing without ever having fully arrived. The leaves are beginning to turn on some trees, birds are departing, and the nights feel crisper. Maybe it was the long vacation in June that has made the summer feel so short to me.

The vacation to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland was a complete success. I can't go into all the details in this small space, but if I remember I'll put a couple of photos on the website.

I received a promotion at work in July. It was gratifying not just for the title inflation and the raise, but also because it gives me the same status as my co-workers. Now I feel to be a full part of the team, and I feel that my career change is complete.

The garden was only a partial success this year. Whereas last year we had an abundance of tomatoes, peppers, eggplants, and squashes, this year the hot season crops have fared poorly. Some of them, such as eggplants and beans, failed entirely. I won't get to make hot sauce this year - too few hot peppers! The corn was doing well, but some critter ate most of it last weekend while we were out of town. On the positive side, the onions, parsley, carrots, and beets have all done well, and we have a promising fall crop of lettuce and spinach on the way.

My parents visited and we put them to work weeding the perennial bed. We run the risk that they might never visit again! But they do good work and the perennials have never looked better.

Time to start the fall tasks and prepare for the winter ahead. I hope all is well with you!
