Solid Waste Reduction

With un-recycled wastes at Dartmouth nearing two pounds per person per day, efforts are underway to redirect this trend.

Several projects include

  1. Waste-free Dining in Homeplate and Collis
  2. Compost and recycling in Food court
  3. Recycle Bins in every dorm room
  4. Enhanced recycling in the Greek houses
  5. Compost facility
  6. Sustainable move-out and move-in

The Solid Waste Reduction Task Force has been established to

  • Assist in developing a solid waste reduction plan
  • Establish policies related to procurement and solid waste handling
  • Survey unmet reuse, recycling and composting needs
  • Communicate and educate (social marketing) relative to waste reduction
  • Involve students, faculty and staff in the efforts
  • Standardize the 'Look', rules and communications of our systems
