Green Transportation & Commuting Programs

Many of Dartmouth's 4200 employees commute to work by bus or car. To reduce our transportation impact and reduce traffic congestion, Dartmouth College provides financial incentives and green transportation options to students, faculty and staff. By working together we can reduce the demand for parking, consume less gasoline, decrease pollution, and save money.

Quick facts:

  • Dartmouth's commuter programs and incentives have contributed to a 30% increase in the number of vacant parking spaces between 2007 and 2008.
  • Dartmouth earned "Best Workplace for Commuters" status in 2006 by the U.S. EPA and Department of Transportation. In order to qualify, employers must offer benefits such as free or low-cost bus passes, availability of telecommuting, and carpool matching, as well as an emergency ride home program.
