Sustainable Move-Out/In

The Sustainable Move-Out is simple. Get rid of your unwanted items in June and we will either resell them to incoming freshmen and returning upperclassmen in the fall or donate them to local charity, depending on the item. Each dorm and Greek house will have bins for various small items, and a volunteer crew, with the help of FO&M, will pick up large items. If you have any questions or comments about Sustainable Move-Out, blitz “sustain.”

Remember, if anything is left in your room without having been registered with Sustainable Dartmouth, ORL penalties will apply. So give your items to the Sustainable Move-Out!

Spring

Start thinking about what you might want to donate. Spread the word. Tell your friends about the Move-Out. Volunteer to help poster, give out flyers, help manage the donations, and more! Blitz “sustain” to get involved.

Sustainable Dartmouth will help you move large items (refrigerators, furniture) out of your room. Blitz “sustain” to set up and appointment to move stuff out of your room. Remember, anything that has not been checked (stickered) with Sustainable Dartmouth and is left in your room after move out, you will be subject to ORL fines.

Drop-Points will be located on the first floor lounges of most college dorms and Greek Houses.

Summer

Cleaning and sorting. Sustainable Dartmouth will be leading out trips to clean, organize, and price all of the items for the fall sale! Free lunch for everyone who comes out! If you’re leading a freshmen trip. Let your trippees know about the upcoming sale.

Fall

The first sale for incoming freshmen will be in Collis Commonground on the first year move-in day.

Volunteers are needed to help set up and run each sale.

What do we do with the proceeds from the sale? After paying expenses, we use the money to support an environmental initiative within Dartmouth and/or the Upper Valley Community. In the past we have purchased compact fluorescent lightbulbs for fraternities and sororities and also co-sponsored the Kids for a Cooler Upper Valley Green Bags Project. Have an idea about how we can use the money? Let us know!
