Apply for a Sustainable Move-Out FundsMove In Sale 2009

The 2009 Sustainable Move-In Sale was our largest and most successful yet, with nearly all of the donated items sold and over $9,000 raised. A portion of these funds go to support your project ideas for helping our campus and community become more sustainable.

Projects should be designed for the Winter, Spring, or Summer 2010 terms and funding requests should not exceed $1000. The deadline for proposals is Monday, November 30th and applicants will be notified of the committee’s decision by the end of Fall term. Please complete and blitz the form to “sustain” or mail to Hinman Box 6011.

DDS Lowers Use of To-Go Containers Clamshell

In the past, it was common to see students eating out of the plastic clamshell "to-go" containers in Food Court, even when they were eating "in." To reduce plastic waste, DDS implemented a simple, yet effective solution. The containers and recyclable plastic bags were moved to the front entrance so students must make a conscious effort to take their food to-go.  Since this move at the beginning of Fall term, there has been a 44% reduction in plastic clamshell usage compared to the same time period last year.

Sustainable Operations Roadmap Underway

Thanks to a grant from Dartmouth alumna Mary Morgan Finegan (Class of 1986), Dartmouth has convened several workshops with the College Resource Working Group (RWG) to create a roadmap for making College operations more sustainable. An initial assessment has been completed and we are developing goals, indicators and strategies for reducing our energy, transportation, and materials footprint on campus. Check back for updates and drafts of the roadmap report.

Sustainability Initiative Awarded $200,000

The Sustainability Initiative received a $135,000 grant from the Morgan Family Foundation to support the development of sustainability indicators and a shared sustainability roadmap for Dartmouth. An additional $65,000 gift from Mary Morgan Finegan '86 will support programs and research at the Sustainable Living Center. Read more in the VOX.
