ENGS 120 Electromagnetic Fields and Waves
Notes on Equipment Required for Lecture Demos.

College
-
Simulation of Ferromagnetism by a Compass Array
-
Paramagnetism and Diamagnetism, using Pasco
Variable Gap Magnet, Pasco
Magnetic Force Accessory Kit, and optionally the goosneck
camera.
-
Induction, using large coil, Cenco
meter, and the Pasco
Variable Gap Magnet.
-
Lenz's law: using large coil, banana patch cord, and Cenco
meter. Observe that coil doesn't heat up.
-
Force between coil and aluminum plate (partial levitation). Requires
large coil, adapter from banana to line cord, and a thick plate of Al about
2-3 feet square.
-
True magnetic levitation with superconducting disk. Kit
plus dewar of LN.
-
Surfaces for integration of flux through a two-turn coil. Set of
examples in my office.
-
Standing waves.
