Friday, March 21, 2003 Dartmouth's Donegan Named First Team All-Ivy HANOVER, N.H. -- For the second straight year, Dartmouth's Ryan Donegan (New Orleans, La.) has been named first team All-Ivy in men's squash. The selections were recently announced by the Ivy League Office. Donegan, who has played No. 1 for the Big Green for two straight years, was voted first team All-America by the College Squash Association. Last season, he became the first Dartmouth player ever chosen Ivy League rookie of the year, and he also added first team All-Ivy and second team All-America recognition to his resume. A 2000 graduate of Brother Martin High School, Donegan was ranked as high as second in the under-19 rankings before enrolling at Dartmouth. Sunday, March 2, 2003 VYROSTKO WINS CONSOLATION BRACKET AT SQUASH NATIONAL TOURNAMENT PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth freshman Jessica Vyrostko won the consolation bracket of the Holleran Cup at the College Squash Association individual championships on Sunday. After falling down 0-2, Vyrostko came back to defeat Brown's Kari Betts in five games. Vyrostko defeated Missy Cosgrave in the semifinals in three games to reach the final match. BIG GREEN SQUASH PLAYERS COMPETE AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth freshman Jessica Vyrostko advanced to the round of 16 in the Holleran Cup at the College Squash Association individual championships on Friday.
Vyrostko, the 15th seed, beat Winnie So, 9-3, 9-6, 9-3 to advance to the round of 16 where she fell to No. 3 seed Meridy Volmer, 9-2, 9-3, 9-0. Vyrostko will face unseeded Sara Wood on Saturday in the consolation bracket.
Competing in the Ramsay Cup, freshman Julie Drury lost in the opening round to No. 12 seed Isabel Restrepo, 9-2, 9-5, 9-1. Drury then fell in the consolation bracket to Clare Whipple, 4-9, 9-6, 9-2, 10-9.
HARTFORD, Conn. -- Sophomore Ryan Donegan won his opening round match to advance to the round of 16 before falling in the A Pool Division at the College Squash Association individual championships on Friday.
Donegan, seeded 10th, defeated Pat Malloy, 9-5, 9-6, 9-0 in the opening round before falling to No. 7 seed David Yik, 9-0, 4-9, 9-2, 9-0.
Junior Andrei Prokopiw won his opening round match in the B Malloy Division before losing in the second round. Seeded 13th, Prokopiw beat Eric Lopez, 9-4, 9-6, 9-1 before falling to No. 4 seed Tejvir Rathore, 10-9, 9-4, 1-9, 10-8.
Men's Squash Finishes 8th at CSA Team Championship
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Dartmouth men's squash team was defeated by No. 7 seed Penn, 6-3, to finish eighth at the College Squash Association team championships on Sunday at Ringe Courts.
The Big Green lost in the first three spots, while sophomore Tim Vipond won in five games at No. 4, freshman Hank Alexander won in three games at No. 5 and junior Chris O'Connell was victorious in five games at No. 7.

MEN'S SQUASH DEFEATED IN SECOND ROUND OF NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Dartmouth men's squash team was defeated by No. 5 seed Western Ontario, 5-4, in the second round at the College Squash Association team championships on Saturday at Ringe Courts.
Sophomore Ryan Donegan led the way for the eighth-seeded Big Green, winning at No. 1 in five games, 9-0, 2-9, 9-3, 3-9, 9-1.
Dartmouth plays Penn on Sunday in the seventh-place contest with action set to start at 1:30 p.m. at Ringe Courts. The Big Green fell to the Quakers, 5-4, in its final matchup of the regular season two weeks ago.
MEN'S SQUASH FALLS IN OPENING ROUND OF NATIONAL TOURNAMENT
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- The Dartmouth men's squash team was defeated by No. 1 seed and five-time defending national champion Trinity, 9-0, at the College Squash Association team championships on Friday at Ringe Courts.
Sophomore Ryan Donegan came the closest to snaring a win from Trinity, but he eventually fell to Bernardo Samper, 9-6, 9-4, 9-4.
Dartmouth, the eighth seed, will play fifth-seeded Western Ontario on Saturday for the right to advance to the fifth-place contest on Sunday. Action begins tomorrow at 3:30 p.m. at Ringe Courts.
Dartmouth Women's Squash Nips Princeton, 5-4, for Fifth Place at Howe Cup
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Dartmouth women's squash team avenged an earlier loss to Princeton, defeating the Tigers, 5-4, on Sunday to claim fifth place at the Howe Cup.
On February 8, the Big Green fell to Princeton by the same 5-4 score. This time, Dartmouth's depth at the bottom of the ladder proved enough as the Big Green swept the Nos. 6-9 matches.
The Howe Cup is regarded as the national collegiate team championship for women. Trinity defended its title with a 9-0 win over Yale.
For Dartmouth, sophomore Kelly Sennatt posted a 3-2 victory at No. 3 over her Princeton opponent, and at No. 6, freshman Jessica Vyrostko led the bottom of the ladder with a 3-1 win.

DARTMOUTH WOMEN'S SQUASH ADVANCES IN HOWE CUP
NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Dartmouth women's squash team advanced to the fifth-place match in the Howe Cup by defeating Brown, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Brady Squash Center.
The Big Green will battle Princeton for fifth place after the Tigers narrowly edged Dartmouth, 5-4, last weekend.
Against the Bears, Dartmouth claimed victories at every position except No. 1, where freshman Julia Drury fell in three games. Senior Charlotte Haldeman won in four games at No. 2 and sophomore Kelly Sennatt was victorious in three at No. 3.
Freshman Jessica Tory (No. 4), junior Crosby Haynes (No. 5) and freshman Jessica Vyrostko (No. 6) each won their matches in five games, while sophomore Martha Ucko (No. 7) and seniors Abigail Drachman-Jones (No. 8) and Farrar Evans (No. 9) each won in three games.
Dartmouth concludes its team season on Sunday against Princeton with the match set to begin at 1:30 p.m. at the Brady Squash Center.

Brady Squash Center Site of 2003 Howe Cup
New Haven, Conn.- This weekend Yale University and the Brady Squash Center host the 2003 team national championship event of women's collegiate squash. Twenty-nine teams will compete in four flights. Trinity College (11-0) is the defending champion. Harvard (7-1) is seeded second, and Yale (7-1), led by head coach Mark Talbott, is seeded third. Howe Cup action begins at 9:15 a.m. on Friday, 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The Bulldogs open with Princeton on Friday at 2:15 p.m. Results will be available each day on www.collegesquash.info.
Squash Teams Split at Pennsylvania in Ivy League Action
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Dartmouth and Penn played to a pair of nailbiters in Ivy League squash action on Sunday, with the Big Green women taking a 5-4 decision and the men falling, 5-4.
With the score tied at four apiece, sophomore Martha Ucko had the deciding point for the Big Green with a 3-1 victory. Also winning for Dartmouth were freshman Jessica Tory at No. 4; junior Crosby Haynes at No. 5; freshman Jessica Vyrostko at No. 6; and senior Farrar Evans at No. 9.
That boosted Dartmouth's record to 11-4 overall, 3-3 in the Ivy League. The Big Green competes February 14-16 at the Howe Cup, hosted by Yale.
On the men's side, Dartmouth had victories at the four-through-seven spots on the ladder, as eight of the nine matches went to multiple games. Posting wins were freshman Hank Alexander at No. 4; sophomore Tim Vipond at No. 5; sophomore Will Hiltz at No. 6; and freshman Adam Slutsky at No. 7.
At No. 1, Dartmouth sophomore Ryan Donegan fell to Penn's Richard Repetto by a 3-2 score.
Now 11-7 overall and 1-5 in the Ivies, the Dartmuth men have two weeks off before competing at the CSA Team Championship at Princeton.
MEN'S, WOMEN'S SQUASH TEAMS FALL AT PRINCETON
PRINCETON, N.J. -- Dartmouth's men's and women's squash teams each fell at the hands of Princeton on Saturday afternoon at Jadwin Squash Courts.
The women were barely edged, 5-4, while the men's squad lost, 9-0.
Dartmouth used depth to its advantage with freshman Jessica Tory leading the charge with a 3-2 win at No. 4. Sophomore Martha Ucko and seniors Abigail Drachman-Jones and Farrar Evans each won their matches, 3-0.
Tim Vipond was the highlight on the men's side, falling in five games after forging ahead to a 2-1 advantage.
At No. 1, sophomore Ryan Donegan fell in three game's to Yasser El Halaby, the nation's top-rated player.
Both teams return to action tomorrow on the road against Penn with action set to begin at 11 a.m. Sunday, February 2, 2003
Squash Teams Double Up Against Brown, Colby
HANOVER, N.H. -- The Dartmouth men's and women's squash teams both picked up a pair of wins Sunday, defeating Brown and Colby.
In men's action, the Big Green knocked off Brown, 7-2, before dropping Colby, 8-1. Dartmouth's top player, Ryan Donegan, defeated Brown's Ben Oliner, 9-1, 9-0, 9-0, before sitting out the Colby match.
Andrei Prokopiw picked up a win at No. 2 against Brown before earning another at No. 1 against the White Mules. The Big Green improved to 11-5 overall, 1-3 in the Ivy League.
The Dartmouth women had identical 8-1 wins over the Bears and White Mules.
Julia Drury, playing at No. 2 against Brown and No. 1 against Colby, picked up a pair of wins.
The victories boosted the women's record to 10-3 overall, 2-2 Ivy.
Both squads are on the road next weekend, traveling to Princeton on Saturday and Penn on Sunday.
MEN'S SQUASH SPLITS WITH HARVARD/MIT; WOMEN FALL TO CRIMSON
CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Dartmouth's men's squash team defeated MIT, 9-0, after Harvard beat the Big Green, 9-0, while Dartmouth's women's squash team lost to the Crimson, 8-1, on Wednesday night.
Dartmouth lost just three games against MIT with junior Jesse Nisselson winning at No. 1 in five games. Prior to that, the Big Green fell to the Crimson, 9-0, with sophomore Tim Vipond winning the only game for Dartmouth at No. 5.
Senior Farrar Evans claimed the only win for the Big Green at the No. 9 spot in Harvard's 8-1 victory. Evans defeated Alexandra Johnson, 9-0, 9-6, 9-3. The match was closer than the score indicates as sophomore Martha Ucko (No. 3) and freshmen Jessica Tory (No. 6) and Jessica Vyrostko (No. 8) lost in five games.
The men's team is now 9-5 overall and 0-3 in Ivy play, while the women's squad is 8-3 and 1-2.
Both teams next host Brown and Colby on Feb. 2 with the matches set to start at 12 noon.
Squash Teams Spoil St. Lawrence Dedication
CANTON, N.Y. The Dartmouth men's and women's squash teams spoiled the opening of the Robie Squash Center at St. Lawrence University, as the Big Green swept both matches by scores of 9-0 on Saturday evening.
The Big Green women also defeated Hobart/William Smith, 9-0, on Sunday at St. Lawrence, while the men lost, 6-3, to Western Ontario.
The two wins improve the women to 8-2 , while the men are now 8-4 overall.
Against Hobart/William Smith, senior Charlotte Haldeman started the sweep for the Big Green with a 3-0 win at No. 1.
For the men, sophomore Ryan Donegan took a 3-1 decision at No. 1 against Western Ontario, while classmates Tim Vipond and Will Hiltz were victorious at No. 5 and No. 8, respectively.
The two teams will be back in action on January 29 at Harvard.
Women's Squash Blanks Cornell, 9-0; Men's Squash Splits Matches
ITHACA, N.Y. The Dartmouth women's squash team blanked Cornell, 9-0, in Ivy League action on Saturday, while the men dropped a 7-2 decision to the Big Red. The Big Green men also defeated Denison, 9-0, on Friday night in Ithaca, N.Y.
With the win, the women improve to 6-2 overall, 1-1 Ivy League, while the men are now 7-3 overall, 0-2 Ivy League.
Against Cornell, the women swept all nine matches by a score of 3-0.
In the men's loss to the Big Red, sophomore Ryan Donegan won his match at No. 1, 3-0, and freshman Hank Alexander, who moved up to the No. 4 position, also won 3-0.
The women and men will both play at St. Lawrence on Saturday night at 7:00 p.m.
DARTMOUTH MEN'S, WOMEN'S SQUASH SWEPT BY TRINITY
HANOVER, N.H. -- Both the Dartmouth men's and women's squash teams were defeated, 9-0, by Trinity Saturday afternoon at the Berry Center.
On the men's side, Dartmouth lost, 9-0, failing to take a game from Trinity -- the five-time defending national champions. At No. 1, sophomore Ryan Donegan fell to Trinity'sMichael Ferreira 9-4, 9-2, 9-2.
The Big Green women also fell 9-0 to Trinity, the defending national champions. Senior Charlotte Haldeman lost at the top spot to Amina Helal 9-0, 9-5, 9-0. Senior Abigail Drachman-Jones (No. 7) and freshman Jess Vyrostko (No. 9) each won a game, but eventually fell in four.
The men fell to 6-2 on the season, while the women's team is 5-2.
The men next take on Denison at Cornell on Jan. 24 at 8 p.m., while the women play at Cornell on Jan. 25 at 10 a.m
Dartmouth Men's Squash Wins Two Matches
HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth's Ryan Donegan won both matches at No. 1 as the Big Green defeated Williams, 6-3, and Amherst, 7-2, in men's squash action on Wednesday.
The sophomore defeated Gifford Sommerkamp of Amherst, 9-3, 9-0, 9-1, and knocked off Parth Doshi of Williams, 8-10, 9-1, 9-1, 9-4.
Also winning two matches apiece for the Big Green were sophomore Tim Vipond at No. 4; freshman Henry Alexander at No. 5; freshman Adam Slutsky at No. 6; junior Chris O'Connell at No. 7; and sophomore Will Hiltz at No. 8.
With a 6-1 record, Dartmouth is home on Saturday, hosting Trinity at 2 o'clock.

Dartmouth's Donegan Upsets Top American Junior Squash Player
HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth sophomore Ryan Donegan upset Yale's Julian Illingworth, 9-3, 2-9, 9-6, 9-3, in men's squash action Saturday.
Playing at No. 1, Illingworth is considered the top American junior squash player, and he's seeded in the top eight in the world among under-19 squash players.
Donegan was voted the Ivy League rookie of the year last season.
Yale's depth was too much for Dartmouth to overcome, however, as the Bulldogs won, 8-1, with seven of the matches decided in three games.
At No. 7, Yale's Ziad Haider went four games against Dartmouth's Chris O'Connell, 10-9, 7-9, 9-2, 9-5.
Dartmouth is 4-1 on the season.
On the women's side, the Bulldogs blanked the Big Green, 9-0. Three of the matches went to four games, including at No. 2 where Yale's Amy Gross defeated Julia Drury, 9-2, 9-0, 7-9, 10-8.
The Big Green is now 3-1, and both the men's and women's teams take on Williams and Amherst at the Berry Sports Center on Wednesday, beginning at 5 p.m.
WOMEN'S SQUASH WINS THREE MATCHES IN IN DARTMOUTH INVITATIONAL
HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth's women's squash team kicked off the 2002-03 season with three impressive wins in the Dartmouth Invitational on Saturday at the Berry Center.
The Big Green defeated Bates and Tufts, 9-0, and dropped just one match to Bowdoin, winning 8-1.
As a squad, Dartmouth dropped a mere four games throughout the three contests with the lone blemish against Bowdoin coming at the No. 1 position.
The Dartmouth Invitational concludes on Sunday, Nov. 24 with matches set to begin at 9 a.m.
DARTMOUTH MEN'S SQUASH WINS OPENING THREE CONTESTS
HANOVER, N.H. -- Dartmouth's men's squash team began the 2002-03 season on a high note, winning all three of its contests in the Dartmouth Invitational Saturday afternoon at the Barry Center.
The Big Green won each of its contests 8-1 against Navy, Bates and Franklin & Marshall with Dartmouth's Nos. 1-8 winning each match in all three contests.
Dartmouth's top five players -- Ryan Donegan, Jesse Nisselson, Tim Vipond, Hank Alexander and Chris O'Connell combined to win 45 of their 55 collective games.
The Dartmouth Invitational concludes on Sunday, Nov. 24 with matches set to begin at 9 a.m.
DARTMOUTH HIRES SQUASH ASSISTANT
HANOVER, N.H. -- Paul Frank, former Scottish National Junior Excellence Program head coach, was named squash assistant coach at Dartmouth.
Frank comes to Hanover after serving as the head coach of the Scottish National Junior Excellence Program the past three years. Prior to his service there, he was a professional squash coach and player for several years and a consultant to the Dutch Squash Bond.
As a player, Frank was ranked in the Victoria, Australia top 10 from 1995-98 and cracked the Australian top 20 in 1998. Frank also participated in professional leagues in Holland, Belgium and Germany.
As a coach, Frank has guided numerous individuals to world
rankings, including 10 current or former national champions and 16 Scottish
national team representatives.
