The Women's Captains Vivian Lee Senior Bloomington, Minn. Major: Psychology The only three-year captain in the history of Dartmouth women's golf, Vivian Lee returns for her final season of eligibility. She's shown steady improvement through her collegiate career, and last spring was the Big Green's low finisher at the weather-shortened Northeast Championship, firing an 81 for fifth place. She also tied for 11th at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational during the fall with a two-day score of 169 that included an opening round of 81. She counts two special moments on the golf course as among her favorites. One was the first time she broke 80, shooting a 78 her junior year of high school in the regional qualifier for the state tournament. The other was a golf outing with her father at Superior National G.C. in Lutsen, Minn. "It was one of the last times I played with my father before he passed away," said Lee, "and I cherish every moment of it." Her dream foursome would include Nancy Lopez, Se Ri Pak and Tiger Woods, and her favorite golf course is Minnesota Valley C.C. where she grew up playing. Lee twice competed in the Western Women's Junior Tournament and has entered the Minnesota State Amateur several times. As a junior golfer, she had the opportunity to play with Kris Lindstrom, now on the LPGA tour, as well as Kalen Anderson and Katie Bakken, both on the Futures tour after successful collegiate careers at Duke and Minnesota, respectively. Shannon Rogers Junior Center Barnstead, N.H. Major: Environmental Studies Twice the most valuable player on the Dartmouth women's golf team, Shannon Rogers begins her third season with the Big Green. A veteran of competition in the State of New Hampshire, Shannon began playing at the age of eight and won the 1998 New Hampshire Women's Golf Association junior championship. She also won the New Hampshire state schoolgirl titles in 1997 and 1998. She's played in numerous NHWGA state championships as well as New England Women's Golf Championships. At the 1999 NEWGA tournament at Torrington, Conn., one of Shannon's rounds included a sparkling 72. In her first collegiate championship at the Tina Barrett/Longwood Invitational, she tied for fourth with 78-82-160, and the following spring, Shannon recorded 81-79-160, good for ninth place in her first Ivy League Championship. Last season, her best showing came in the fall at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational, where she was tied for fourth with 83-82-165. Shannon's money club is her Scotty Cameron putter, and her dream foursome would include her father, Rick, along with Tiger Woods and Fred Couples. An Academic All-Ivy honoree last spring, she enjoys New Hampshire's golf courses, especially her home course of Rochester C.C., her collegiate course at Hanover C.C. and Portsmouth C.C., just a few miles away from where she grew up. Shannon is considering a career in environmental law or policy. |
