Bredin Named to Canadian Team
Dartmouth's Correne Bredin (Warburg, Alta.) will compete in the upcoming Women's World Hockey Championship to be played in Minneapolis from April 2-8.
A junior defenseman, Bredin will represent Team Canada in the games and now has an inside track to the 2002 Olympic Games in Salt Lake City.
"I am very honored to be chosen for this team," Bredin said. "This is my first World Championship, and I've been striving for it for a very long time. To have finally made the team feels great. I really want to play with confidence and poise when I get there in order to gain some recognition from the coaches."
Last year, Bredin was named an ECAC second team all-star and was a first team All-Ivy selection. As a freshman, Bredin was named to the ECAC All-Rookie team.
"She has worked so hard for this," Dartmouth head coach Judy Oberting said. "I think the Canadian team knows they are better with her in the lineup. It is great for college hockey and I am really excited for Correne. She is only going to get better. They are not going to be disappointed." (Bill Garfield)
