MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: at Iona Invitational, 4th of 23; NCAA Pre Meet at Iowa State, 27th of 53.

Upcoming: Oct. 27 Heptagonal Championship at New York, N.Y.; Nov. 11 at NCAA District I Qualifier.

Sophomore Tom McArdle (Brookline, Mass.) finished 21st out of 360 runners on the 10,000 meter course in a time of 31:28 at the NCAA Pre Meet. The Big Green placed fourth out of 23 teams at the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 30. Finishing in the top 10 was McArdle, who covered the five-mile course in a time of 24:52. Senior Peter Duyan (Portland, Ore.) was right behind him, placing 11th in a time of 24:57. Also finishing in the top 50 were senior Parker Pruett (Birch Harbor, Maine), 26th in 25:22, and freshman Jarrod Shoemaker (Sudbury, Mass.), 36th in 25:36.

 

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: at Iona Invitational, 7th of 23; NCAA Pre Meet at Iowa State, 43rd of 56.

Senior Erin Dromgoole (Millbury, Mass.) was Dartmouth's top finisher, placing 75th out of 371 runners in a time of 22:22 for the 6,000 meter course at the NCAA Pre Meet. The Big Green was seventh out of 23 teams at the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 30. Dromgoole was the first Big Green runner across the finish line, 15th in 21:25. Also finishing in the top 50 for Dartmouth were freshman Kate Polizzotto (Stow, Mass.), 23rd in 21:41; sophomore Cecily Garber (Kensington, Md.), 49th in 22:18; and senior Bonnie-Jeanne Regan (Mahopac, N.Y.), 50th in 22:20.

 

EQUESTRIAN (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: at Middlebury, 3rd of 10; at Vermont, 2nd of 10.

The equestrian team captured five first-place ribbons at Vermont, including senior Jennifer Renz (Gansevoort, N.Y.) who was first in both the open fences and the open flat. At Middlebury, first-place ribbons were awarded to junior Jennifer Hoover (Soelleroed, Denmark) in intermediate fences, freshman Jennifer Hill (Shaker Heights, Ohio) in novice fences and Renz in open fences.

 

FIELD HOCKEY (6-4 Overall, 3-1 Ivy)

Freshman Rebekka Stucker (Queensbury, N.Y.) was tabbed Ivy rookie of the week after scoring a pair of goals, including the gamewinner, in the Big Green's 4-2 win over Penn. Sophomore Lisa Thomas (St. Louis, Mo.) also netted two goals in the game and was named to the Ivy honor roll. Sophomore Lauren Welsh (Lambertville, N.J.) was voted to the Ivy honor roll after a five-point performance against Yale. Welsh leads the Ivy League in scoring with 25 points (10g, 5a) and is fifth in the nation in points per game (3.31) and fourth in goals per game (1.25). Thomas, meanwhile, is 18th in both points (2.25) and goals (0.87). Senior Brittany D'Augustine (Auburn, Maine) has moved into second place in career saves and shutouts.

 

FOOTBALL (1-4 Overall, 0-2 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: Sept. 30 at Pennsylvania, L 48-14; Oct. 7 Yale, L 24-14 ; Oct. 14 Holy Cross, W 31-14.

Junior wide receiver Damien Roomets (Sudbury, Mass.) continues to rack up the receptions for the Big Green. Roomets has 40 receptions in five games for an average of 8.0 catches per game. As of Oct. 10, Roomets was ranked second in I-AA in receptions and fourth in receiving yards, with 112.6 yards per game. Roomets earned his second Ivy League honor roll mention for his seven-catch, 113-yard effort at Penn. Junior quarterback Brian Mann (Canton, Mass.) was named to the Ivy honor roll on Oct. 9. Mann completed 28 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns against Yale.

 

MEN'S GOLF (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Sophomore Jero Esteve (Coral Gables, Fla.) posted rounds of 73-71-144 to finish second at the Toski Invitational. As a team, the Big Green was second, sharing the runner-up spot with Hartford. Also scoring for Dartmouth were junior Lee Birchall (Birmingham, Ala.), 72-76-148; senior Jon Edwards (Potomac, Md.), 74-76-150; sophomore Kyle Yamamoto (Reno, Nev.), 82-75-157; and freshman Jeremiah Daly (Marion, Mass.), 84-80-164.

 

WOMEN'S GOLF (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

With three golfers in the top 10, the Dartmouth women were second at the Mt. Holyoke Invitational. Freshman Kathy Birchall (Birmingham, Ala.) was the Green's top finisher with rounds of 82-80-162, good for third place. Another freshman, Shannon Rogers (Center Barnstead, N.H.), was sixth with 82-84-166, and sophomore Erika Fry (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) was ninth with 85-83-168.

 

ROWING (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

The men's heavyweight varsity eight earned a medal at the Stonehurst Regatta on Oct. 15 for the first time in school history. The Big Green took the bronze with a time of 29:13.93, behind Harvard and Brown. Senior John Nichols (Palo Alto, Calif.) won three medals at the Head of the Connecticut Regatta, taking a gold in the heavyweight eight, silver in the lightweight eight and bronze in the heavyweight four.

 

SAILING (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Upcoming: Oct. 20-22 McMillan Cup at Navy; Hoyt Trophy at Brown; Stu Nelson Trophy at Coast Guard; Oct. 21 Northern Series; Oct. 28-29 Schell Trophy at MIT; Victorian Urn at Radcliffe; New England Freshman Championship at Rhode Island; Nov. 3-5 ICYRA Women's Singlehanded at Washington; Horn at Harvard.

The women's sailing team won every division while racking up a record-setting margin of victory at the Navy Fall Regatta on Oct. 8. The Big Green amassed 238 points, while St. Mary's was second with 376 in the 13-team field. Sailing doublehanded dinghies, seniors Erin Maxwell (Stonington, Conn.) and Leslie Sandberg (Colchester, Conn.) won A division, while B division honors went to sophomore Thalia Pascalides (East Greenwich, R.I.) and senior Esther Freeman (Newton, Mass.). In C division featuring singlehanded dinghies, junior Jen Morgan (Shoreline, Wash.) was first. On Oct. 1, Dartmouth won the Women's New England Sloop Championship.

 

MEN'S SOCCER (8-3 Overall, 3-0 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: Vermont, W 1-0; Penn, W 1-0; Boston College, W 2-1; Yale, W 1-0 2ot; North Carolina, L 3-1 at adidas Spartan Classic; UNC Greensboro, W 2-1 at adidas Spartan Classic.

Dartmouth's 2-1 win against Boston College was the 400th in the 85-year history of the program and the 50th for head coach Fran O'Leary at Dartmouth. For his three gamewinning goals against Penn, BC and Yale, Tom Billings (Stratford-upon-Avon, England) was named Ivy player of the week on Oct. 9, as well as ECAC player of the week. Damien Quinn (San Diego, Calif.) became the third different freshman to earn Ivy rookie honors, assisting on two of Billings' gamewinners. They are the first duo to sweep the Ivy weekly honors since Brendan Reidy '99 and Danny Markman '02 in 1998. Seniors Brad Christof (Sewickly, Pa.) and Nick Magnuson (Stillwater, Minn.) and sophomore Scott Lish (Shoreview, Minn.) were named to the adidas/Spartan Classic All-Tournament team.

 

WOMEN'S SOCCER (8-3 Overall, 2-1 Ivy)

Dartmouth is ranked 15th in Division I in team goals against average at 0.615. Senior co-captain Jessica Post (Northridge, Calif.) was named to the Ivy honor roll for the third time this season on Oct. 9. Post, ninth on Dartmouth's all-time scoring list with 50 points, needs one assist to tie Melissa Roth's '00 team record of 21. Senior goalie Kristin Luckenbill (Paoli, Pa.) became the third goalie in Dartmouth history to record 300 saves, when she made six stops in the Big Green's 4-1 win against Yale. Also against Yale, senior forward Jen Murray (Wellesley, Mass.) scored her 18th career goal, moving into eighth place on the Big Green's all-time list. Ivy League women's soccer is ranked second in the RPI, with only the ACC higher.

 

MEN'S TENNIS (0-0 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Junior Jeff Sloves (Aspen, Colo.) and James Dinkmeyer (Parkland, Fla.) won the A doubles championship at the Yale Invitational, 8-6. Dinkmeyer was the runner-up in B singles. In B doubles, freshmen Neal Bobba (Gahanna, Ohio) and Jesse Paer (Honolulu, Hawaii) advanced to the final before falling to Cornell.

 

WOMEN'S TENNIS (0-1 Overall, 0-0 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: Cissie Leary Tournament at Penn; at Harvard Invitational; Massachusetts, L 7-2.

Upcoming: Oct. 20-22 Dartmouth Invitational; Nov. 3-6 at ITA Regional.

At No. 1 doubles, freshmen Catherine Crandall (Harvard, Mass.) and Christine Miller (Plantation, Fla.) won against Massachusetts. Crandall also won her singles match at No. 2. At the Harvard Invitational, freshman Kelsey Surbaugh (Atlanta, Ga.) won the No. 5 singles title. Freshman Arden Fredeking (Huntington, W.Va.) placed third in the second singles flight.

 

VOLLEYBALL (8-10 Overall, 3-1 Ivy)

Results from Sept. 25-Oct. 15: New Hampshire, L 3-0; Northeastern, L 3-1; at Boston College, L 3-0; Penn, W 3-2; Princeton, W 3-2; at Columbia, W 3-2; at Cornell, L 3-0.

Junior Ashley Dean (La Jolla, Calif.) earned her second Ivy player of the week honor on Oct. 10. Dean led the Big Green to a weekend sweep of Penn and Princeton, setting a school record with 34 digs against the Tigers. She is currently fourth in Division I, averaging 4.81 digs per game. Junior outside hitter Erin Naipo (Spokane, Wash.) received Ivy honor roll mention on Oct. 4. Naipo had a season-high 17 digs and 15 kills against Northeastern.
