While much has already been accomplished, much remains to be done to fully achieve what the Trustees and President Wright set out to do. A number of committees, which include students, faculty and administrators, are working on different aspects of the initiative. These include:
- The Committee on Expanded Social Alternatives is working to develop creative and exciting programming options
- Two committees, one on hazing and the other on group adjudication, anticipate completing their work by March of 2001
- The College Committee on Alcohol and Other Drugs has begun work on the alcohol policy. The Social Norms approach to safe and informed alcohol consumption will continue and members of the Counseling and Health Resources offices have developed a collaborative system to deal with alcohol issues
- Two working groups are looking at space issues for athletics, recreation, social activities, and dining—including the renovation and expansion of the Collis Student Center, Thayer Dining Hall, Robinson Hall, and Alumni Gym. The Trustees have approved planning for a new dining and social facility north of Maynard Street
- The Office of Residential Life and the Provost's Office have begun planning for 500-600 additional beds on campus and are working to select an architect. The Trustees have approved sites for two new residence halls, one north of Maynard Street and the other on Tuck Drive
- A committee has formed to work on graduate student housing and the development of a graduate student center, most likely within the dining and social center to be built north of Maynard Street
- A committee to develop a first-year residential program is being formed
- A CFS Steering Committee will develop a comprehensive plan to address the charges relating to CFS organizations. The Office of Residential Life worked with the CFS to remove all tap systems and mass refrigeration units and completed this task in October 2000. That office also completed a facilities audit of CFS houses and is working with them to determine necessary renovations
- Dean of the College James Larimore and Professor Melissa Zeiger will chair the World Cultures Committee and work to "explore ways that both pluralism and unity can be strengthened at Dartmouth, within an environment of mutual respect and understanding"
- A committee has developed a plan to provide halal and kosher dining for Muslim and Jewish students. President Wright has approved funding for this proposal and Dining Services will work toward its implementation.
