Awards, Honors, & CommunityMilton Sims Kramer '54 Group Award – In the spring of 2005, Dean Larimore honored the Team with the Milton Sims Kramer '54 Group Award. It is presented to only one group on campus who contributes significantly to the College and represents "all that is Dartmouth". United Way of the Upper Valley – In the fall of 2004, the Team helped the United Way thank the community for their generosity toward the United Way. The Team presented its first exhibition in Thompson Arena, followed by a family skate where all were invited to bring their skates and skate with the Team. Dartmouth President Jim Wright and his wife Susan attended the event (without their skates)! In the spring of 2006, the Team presented another exhibition and family skate with the United Way. Relay for Life – In the springs of 2004, 2005, and 2006 team members ran and walked all night in Dartmouth's stadium to raise money and awareness for Relay for Life – the national organization supporting cancer research. This year, Dartmouth’s skaters were third among all sports teams at Dartmouth in raising money for this important work. Wearers of the Green – Ten Dartmouth figure skaters have been elected as Wearers of the Green, Dartmouth's equivalent to an athletic Hall of Fame: Holly Ponichtera '07, Katie Collins '06, Taylor Grant '06, Ariel Stern '05, Emily Schaller '02, Cabray Haines '00, Amy Stetson '00, Lois McGean '84, J. Michael McGean '49, and Lyman E. Wakefield, Jr. '33. Friends of Dartmouth Figure Skating – In the summer of 2004, the Team was given the opportunity to form a Friends of Dartmouth Figure Skating Group. The Team is very appreciative of the support of its special donors and friends and depends on those contributions to cover its annual expenses. Contributions to the Team may be sent at any time: Friends of Dartmouth Figure Skating Celebration with the Wrights – Dartmouth President James Wright, and his wife Susan, hosted the Team at their home to celebrate the Team's victory at the 2004 U.S. National Intercollegiate Figure Skating Team Championship. Congratulations by President Wright April 29, 2005 Dear Mike, I write to recognize all that you, Loren, and the Dartmouth figure skaters have accomplished this year. Your second consecutive national championship was cause for great celebration. We owe you our thanks for your steady involvement and generous coaching. Together, you and Loren have built an extraordinary team – and we admire and appreciate all that these students do. Kudos for another great year! Sincerely, James Wright |
