Mbele Africa
It is our pleasure to invite you, to our “Mbele Africa - The Youth’s Role in Taking Africa Forward” Inter-College Students Convention, hosted at Dartmouth College, on the weekend of November 18th – November 20th 2011. The convention aims to bring together African students, and students interested in African issues and culture, to build partnership, learn from each other and take Africa forward.
Dartmouth’s SFA will be glad to provide student hosting (free) and meals during events (free) for all guests in attendance. Guest students must fill out a Guests’ Preference form for a Dartmouth student host for the weekend, even if they already have prior arrangements to stay with friends, by Friday October 28th. Please note the changed deadline.
Dartmouth students must fill out a Hosting Preference form, even if they already have prior arrangements to stay with friends, by Friday October 28th. Please note the changed deadline.
Please see the quick links for a detailed program and detailed event descriptions. However, we would like to draw attention to the following areas. We ask that Guest students as well as Dartmouth students consider active participation in:
* Baraza Breakfast Discussions:
See program and event descriptions for details.
Students may volunteer to moderate table discussions. It will be up to moderators to decide the specifics of the roundtable discussion under a theme.
* Project Presentations:
See program and event descriptions for details.
Students may volunteer to present their successful and/or ongoing projects in Africa, which are serving to advance communities during four to six one-hour sessions. In addition, we would also like guest students to be MCs for these presentations.
* Innovation Talks:
See program and event descriptions for details.
Students may volunteer to present and/or propose their new, unique and innovative ideas and projects for progress in Africa, during the innovation talks.
* African Chorus Concert:
See program and event descriptions for details.
African Choruses, other singing groups or other general performance groups may have an African performance, during the concert, if approved.
For these events we ask that students email a brief description of their project/innovation and concert performance proposals to mbeleafrica@gmail.com with the subject “MBELE Proposal” by Friday October 7th. Please note the changed deadline.
If students would like to volunteer to MC and/or moderate, please fill out the appropriate form on our website.
Alternatively, if students prefer to provide information about their projects rather than present them, that can be done with posters/fliers in the Russo Gallery corridor where we will hold our reception and which will be open for viewing all weekend. We would still need to know of this preference by Friday October 7th. Please note the changed deadline.
If your African Student Organization has any information in hard copy to share at the convention, please let us know if you would like to bring along (or send by post) some posters, fliers, information packets or photographs for showing in the Russo Gallery corridor.
We hope that you can participate in the convention, as it would serve as a platform for us as African students/friends of Africa to share our stories, learn from each other, expand our networks, and strengthen our communities.
If you have any questions, comments or observations, please email us at mbeleafrica@gmail.com. We look forward to seeing you at the convention in November.
Yours sincerely,
Dartmouth Students For Africa.
