Welcome Letter to New Students

September 11, 2023

Dear Dartmouth Students:

Welcome to Dartmouth! You are about to begin one of the most exciting times in your life, and everyone at the Department of Safety and Security (DoSS) wants to help make your "Dartmouth Experience" a safe and enjoyable one!

Dartmouth is a special place, and we want you to enjoy the campus, take full advantage of everything Dartmouth offers and, in doing so, we encourage you to take appropriate personal and collective precautions when living, learning, working, and playing at Dartmouth.

Your safety is, and always will be, our Department's greatest priority. We ask you to be our partner in preventing unsafe practices from interfering with your educational experience. Issues such as sexual assault, hazing, and the dangers of alcohol consumption are very serious, and can have long lasting and damaging effects.

Please know that we are always available to you, and we encourage you to contact us for any reason, at any time via: LiveSafe (Our Safety App); Phone: 603-646-4000 or 603-646-3333 (Emergency), that is 6-4000 or 6-3333 from Dartmouth phones. For Fires, Medical Emergencies or Crimes in Progress, dial 911 without delay.

In the event of an emergency, we will contact you, so make sure we can reach you! Sign Up for Emergency Notifications at our website. Here you can register your phone with DartAlert (Dartmouth’s emergency notification system); download and Install Alertus (desktop/laptop emergency notification app); and LiveSafe (our safety app to easily contact DoSS and 911).

At DoSS, we strive to engage our community via education, information sharing and training programs, as our strongest ally in deterrence and prevention. We are dedicated to the maintenance of a campus environment that supports academic excellence, independent thought, and cultural collaboration. We are here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! Visit our offices on the third floor of 5 Rope Ferry Road anytime!

Again, welcome to Dartmouth and we look forward to you having a safe and wonderful Dartmouth experience!
