The College Setting

SEAD programs take place on the Dartmouth College campus. Dartmouth College is a private, four-year liberal arts college, nestled in the foothills along the Connecticut River in Hanover, New Hampshire, a town of 10,000 residents. With an undergraduate population of 4,000 men and women, Dartmouth enrolls students from a number of foreign countries and is constantly working to maximize the diversity of its population. The college runs a fourth term during the summer and all sophomores must attend this term along with other students who choose to do so. This provides a vibrant college community for SEAD students to experience and a wealth of college volunteers who are an integral part of the program.

Lodging and Meals

SEAD participants are housed in one of the dormitories on campus. The dorm is supervised by college students, resident advisors, who also work as SEAD student teachers and tutors. Meals are served in the college dining facilities as well as being sponsored by many of the campus organizations including fraternity or sorority houses. Every attempt is made to meet dietary needs and to provide a variety of nutritional options.

For Dartmouth organizations interested in sponsoring or providing a meal, please email Sead@dartmouth.edu

Connections to the Dartmouth Community

A central component of SEAD is the involvement of a large number of Dartmouth undergraduates during their sophomore year: a service opportunity for many. Dartmouth students have the chance to contribute some of what they are learning back to the community, and also gain a new understanding of the exciting challenges in public education today. Connections to Hanover High School Community

In the fall or winter following their summer at Dartmouth, SEAD students come back to Hanover for the SEAD Fall or Winter Reunion Weekend. The Fall and Winter Weekends give SEAD students the opportunity to reconnect with their mentors and one another and serve as a reminder of the focused, motivated work the students did during the summer and can do during the school year. The Fall and Winter Weekends also help prepare the students for their upcoming summer with SEAD.

The SEAD Fall and Winter Weekends are coordinated by Hanover High School SEAD interns. SEAD students are hosted by Hanover High School host families during the weekend. If you are interested in being a host family, please email Sead@dartmouth.edu.
