The Scientific Basis of Medicine (SBM) Program is a series of organ-based multidisciplinary courses given by an interdisciplinary mix of faculty. Our instructors represent nearly every department, basic and clinical, in the medical school. While each course has its own character and "flavor", we try to organize the entire program (all fourteen courses) in a fairly consistent fashion. Each course stresses pathophysiology, but also includes important elements of physiology, genetics, and pathology. Each course is coordinated with relevant material in the year-long Pharmacology and On Doctoring courses.
