Currently West Lebanon is plagued by its own success. Without a cohesive plan to guide the construction and build up of this area, matters will only get worse. The town can only react to this ever changing and progressively deteriorating area. This here is a list of some of the more prominent problem we have looked at.

-The river is an untapped resource for the public to enjoy. The far ends of parking lots and the backsides of stores currently face the river. It could be much better utilized for walking paths and other public recreational activities.

-Currently there is a lot of pavement that is not used efficiently. The rain water hits this pavement or runs down from the hillside, and has nothing to stop or slow down the run off. The water picks up all the pollutants from the parking lots and it ends up in the river. Most of the parking lots rarely reach capacity. Which begs the question do we need all of this.

-The lack of a riparian corridor along sum portions of the river simply increases the pollution of the river. A riparian buffer zone would help alleviate some of this problem. Natural vegetation along with soil access would act as a filter and remove many of the pollutant that was picked up from the parking lots. The vegetation would also help prevent erosion of the river bank, and provide a place for animal to make their home.

-The area is not very pedestrian friendly at this point. The fact that everything is so spread out, with every store having its own parking lot, forces consumers to rely heavily on their cars for transportation. At this point it is un-enticing or even dangerous for people to walk from store to store let alone plaza to plaza.

-Traffic is another point of concern with number of people trying to make left hand turns to get onto Interstate-89. Left turn lanes have been implemented, but these quickly fill up and spill over into the through lanes causing much congestion.

-There is a limited amount of space between the river and the hillside. At this point in time the land is being utilized very inefficiently. Many of these lots go un-maintained and are very visually un-appealing.
