The students will be seniors in good standing that represent a cross-section of the Dartmouth undergraduate student body.  Half of the students will be elected and the other half will be selected.

The primary concern of Dartmouth’s alcohol policy is the health and safety of members of the College community.  With this in mind, the committee will review and assess Section IX of the College’s Alcohol Policy that deals with the Social Event Management Procedures (SEMP).

Specifically, Dean Larimore has asked the committee to:

1. Familiarize itself with Dartmouth’s Alcohol Policy, applicable New Hampshire State laws, and the current SEMP training.

2. Review the current policies, practices, and trends at Dartmouth’s peer institutions with regards to the management of social events with alcohol and review current Dartmouth research data relevant to this committee.

3. Solicit feedback and input from the campus community on suggested revisions to SEMP.

4. Consider the consequences of revisions both in terms of New Hampshire state law and the College’s ability to better safeguard the safety and well-being of members of the campus community.

5. Make recommendations to Dean Larimore early in the winter term for possible implementation in the 2005-2006 academic year.

Questions about the Committee should be directed to Joe Cassidy, Associate Dean of Student Life.

SEMP REVIEW COMMITTEE is accepting recommendation proposals from the community until February 13, 2006 at NOON. (pdf download)
