2008 Schedule

THURSDAY, February 7th

 

8:00AM-6:00PM: Fitzgerald’s Lost Weekend: Winter Carnival 1939 @ Rauner Special Collections Library, Class of 1965 Galleries

12:00PM-12:00AM: Carnival Poster and T-shirt Sales @ Collis Info Desk

2:00PM: Carni Classic @ the Golf Course.  A 3km ski race open to all. Costumes are highly encouraged!

4:00PM: Human Dogsled Race @ the Green.  Come in costume and enjoy prizes and hot chocolate floats! Hosted by Carnival Council and PB.

7:00PM: Movie: The King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters @ Loew Auditorium, The Hop

7:00PM: Opening Ceremonies @ the Green.  Come celebrate the start of Winter Carnival weekend. President Wright welcomes students, the community and friends of Dartmouth, a cappella groups will perform, ceremonial torches will be lit, and the snow sculpture will be unveiled!

7:45PM: After-Ceremony Cookies & Drinks@ Collis Cafe

9:00PM: Film: Winter Carnival (1939) @ Top of the Hop.  See the movie that captures the spirit of early Winter Carnivals!

10:00PM-12:00AM: Party @ Collis Common Ground.  Hosted by Palaeopitus.

 

FRIDAY, February 8th

 

All Day: 99 Cent Ski Day @ the Dartmouth Skiway (STUDENTS WITH ID ONLY). Sponsored by 99 Rock and the Dartmouth Skiway.  Check “Winter Carnival” blitz bulletin for bus schedules.

All Day:  Come out and cheer on the Ski Team as they compete!

7:00PM: Snow Globe Making and Movie @ Top of the Hop. Make a snow globe and watch 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

7:00PM: Women’s Basketball v. Brown University @ Berry Leede Arena

7:00PM: Women’s Ice Hockey v. Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute @ Thompson Arena Rink

8:00PM: 2008 Stroll Show Exhibition @ Collis Common Ground. Hosted by La Unidad Latina, Lambda Upsilon Lambda.

8:00PM: Winter WhingDing @ Spaulding Auditorium, The Hop. Hosted by X.ado, with special guests the Aires and the Dartmouth Gospel Choir. $3 for students; tickets available at The Hop Box Office.

9:00PM: First Annual Mr. and Ms. Big Green Competition @ Dartmouth Hall 105. Five men and five women will compete to see who has the most Dartmouth spirit. Hosted by SA.

10:00PM: X.ado Winter WhingDing Reception @ Tindle Lounge in Thayer Hall. Refreshments will be provided.

10:00PM-12:00AM: Lone Pine All-Stars @ Collis Cafe. Free food and live performances by student musicians. Hosted by Collis Governing Board.

11:00PM: cK Speakerboxx Dance Party @ Tri-Kap

11:00PM: Dance Party @ Chi Gam

Venue Information

Dartmouth Skiway

Take Rt. 10 North 10 miles, turn right on Main St./Dorchester Rd. for 3 miles. Skiway bus will run limited weekend schedule. Check “Winter Carnival” blitz bulletin for Fri. and Sat. bus schedules.

Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center @ DOC House

The DOC House is located at the end of Rope Ferry Rd. on Occom Pond.

Dartmouth Cross Country Ski Center @ Oak Hill

Take Rt. 10 north, take a right onto Reservoir Rd. Shortly, take a left to the Storrs Pond Rec Area. Oak Hill is on your right. Check “Winter Carnival” blitz bulletin for possible location change and available transportation to the venue.
